Anyone in favor of banning books?

I’d have to go back and look but I saw the clip of a mom reading excerpts out of some book here in Waukee that was pretty explicit…available at the middle school.

There are some books that kids are reading that have some explicit things in them.  My wife's class was reading a book that had one graphic paragraph in the entire book and some parents got upset about it.

I'm curious if these same parents are just as stringent with what their children watch on YouTube, TicTok, Instagram and Snapchat?  I would be surprised if their kids have heard worse from their parents when hanging out with friends.  To me, it's just another thing that people want to be outraged about.

What’s the big deal if the parents want it gone? What’s so special about that particular book? Probably nothing. It’s easy enough to find non offensive material. Do your Fockin job

Some.  How many books a year are these kids reading? Especially in Iowa. Come on. I bet I could find a handful of books no one would object to.

I don't think that's really the point.  It's more about censoring.  I would think this goes against the values that stout conservatives have.

So you think no books should be banned? Whatever the teacher wants?

No.  You know that though.  A great book that may have one explicit page in it should not be banned but obviously Fifty Shades of Gray would not be appropriate for 8th graders.  We can use a little common sense here.

That’s what I’m using. It shouldn’t be hard to find a few books that wouldn’t offend anyone. It wasnt an issue when I was growing up. And if the teacher is too stupid, lazy or has an ideological motive then they can get a different job. It’s not about them. HTH.

If we are talking about age appropriate topics, this is absolutely not about censoring.

Why ban, To Kill a Mocking Bird?  Some people were even trying to ban the Happy Potter books when they came out.  It's ridiculous.

Was Harry Potter part of a curriculum?

You're right.  There's nothing different between an obscene book in a government funded public school and people's private homes where they have full choice of what happens there.

Horrible thread title.  Nobody is for banning books in general society or burning books.

Any logical person knows a school should have AGE APPROPRIATE MATERIAL in its library or curriculum.

Deep thought provoking, intense, sexual books shouldn’t be in elementary school.  On the flip side H.S. students shouldn’t have Thomas the Train goes to Camp in their library either.

Also, I would argue that banning books and saying that some books don’t belong in a public elementary school library or class are two different things.

I thought that was obvious.

Yeah I think it gets into the valid argument of what type of content is OK for children and how it’s distributed/context.

I don’t personally find that type of material suitable for children. There’s a difference between talking about sex, reproduction and quasi-pornography

Probably the book I had to read because a parent objected to it in our high school. I saw it was banned in middle schools across the country. It probably shouldn't be in a middle school. But in a high school library. Sure.

A lot of this is false flag stuff.

People are objecting to the racism stuff in the book (the book I had to read has a lot of racist stuff as it is based around the time of the New London School explosion. Lots of "n word" and white people looking to lynch a black family). But if they say "I object to the racism stuff" they are called racists. So they find one passage in the book- in this one there is a reference to sticking it in a girl's "cornhole" which is an old reference to anal sex. So they object to that thinking "Of course everyone will agree with that" and then schools ban it and it's gone.

Who was it that had Huck Finn banned? Didn’t hear libtards objecting then. Why would they, they were the ones doing the banning.

You are dumb. Republican Karens complain that "Hey this book makes it look bad that a group of white people in the 1930's tried to hang a black family. That didn't happen." And they would rightly be called out for trying to hide that racism existed in America. You know- like the dopes who try to use CRT to ban teaching of slavery and the like.

So basically- dumbfvcks like you who get riled up by bow tie wearing b!tches like Tucker Carlson or whatever pops out of the feces spewing Newsmax network.

Yeah, covering up our racist past is a real problem. It’s working so well. You really have to search it out to find it.

So objecting to the anal sex reference must be to cover up their racism? You get to make that leap? Is it possible they actually objected to the anal sex part? Of course not. Plato’s cave. You’ve been indoctrinated, it’s so obvious.

Oh I see, you want to pretend that teaching kids to dislike and distrust each other is "education".

On this point we have to agree to disagree.  I think children can learn history without learning hate.

I look at the AOC's and others that have been produced and they are poorly educated dispensers of hate. And really not much more than that. I think we can do better.

That was incredibly stupid too.  There's not a good reason to ban some of these books.

Is sharing stories about what happened, teaching hate?  Should our schools be sugar coating what actually happened so they don't think it was that big of deal?  I don't want teachers to push hatred but I think it's important to teach what really happened.

Here’s the beauty of it. You can teach your dumb ass kids to hate them selves all on their own at your home if you want to. Nothing is preventing you from guilting your kids into crap that they had nothing to do with. It’s completely bizarre to me to inject some sort of white guilt into something you have no part in.

Do you want to teach about historical things that happened in the past? Perfect. No problem. What the liberal nut jobs want to do is have you view minorities as a tragedy currently. And instead of feeling guilty all it’s going to do is make kids grow up seeing them as a tragic figure. And for god sake‘s minority should oppose this every chance they get.

But no that crap needs to stay out of the schools. Kids can’t read or do math but yeah let’s teach them about white guilt

We're talking about kids reading books.  How do these books take away from learning how to read?

Was more referring to Sean’s post about CRT portions of books in the schools.

No, and if that is all that was happening I doubt people would care. But you see, that is NOT what was happening, and they got caught....

Its fine if YOU want to pretend its not happening, but I am not obligated to do so.

When they lie, I can see through it. And we keep catching them.

So... Ban the books to solve the issue?  I don't think that will fix the problem you have with education.

What amuses me is so many of you sit on this board and type "libtard this" and "libtard that" and talk about the mainstream media just feeding people stuff and then here are people just taking whatever is being fed to them by the GOP big money and propaganda establishment.
