Hypothetical here. The guys I play golf with had a discussion about what you would be will to pay for greens fees. They thought I was crazy when I said no questions asked, I will give $2500 cash right now to play Augusta once and probably could be negotiated higher. You guys would do that, right?

Yes.  Absolutely.  Not sure my ceiling, I’d have to think on that but hell yes. 

I have some friends who’ve played Pebble Beach, Pinehurst No.2, Bethpage Black and have visited Europe to play, etc.  None can get on Augusta.  ZERO.

That was my arguement. We could all win the billion dollar powerball lottery and still not be able to get on there. I would consider sacrificing a couple toes and and a testicle to play there.

If we are being serious that would not get you in,  honestly think it would cost more.  You not only have to really know someone of clout, but you must be vetted and vouched.  It was easier to get in the Mob.

Back around 2001ish - I remember listening to the Dan Patrick show and him being able to get on there. They always had a sound cut of him saying "I shot 83-81 at Augusta." When they were doing that, they had a segment of all the guys that had tried to join and got turned down. The one I remember off the top of my head is Peter Coors. The dude that invented Rocky Mount Kool-Aid wasn't prestigeous enough to become a member.

Not being a diick but anyone can play pebble and bethpage (not sure about No. 2) so I’m not sure what you mean when you list those places and then say none of those friends can get on Augusta. There’s no correlation.

I think I would pay 5,000 if I could play and bring my dad. I know that wouldn’t cut it but there’s definitely a price where I say no thanks unless I knew I was dying or something. Otherwise if I had to pay 25k or something I think I’d just start to get pissed at the elitist nature of it. So while I’d enjoy every second of walking around Augusta and trying to break 90 I’d also be thinking “I can’t believe I gave these dicks 25 grand”. 
 

most prestigious course I’ve played was Baltusrol. It cost me $950 to charity (probably $1100 after extra tips to our caddies) for myself, my dad and cousin and we had to have a member as our 4th. The member was a great host, super nice, and a 3 handicap. All food and regular caddie tips were on the member.
