the republicans are shockingly close to being able to call a Constitutional Convention

Recommended Posts

One of the ways of calling a Constitutional Convention is to control 34 state legislatures.  Quietly, without the MSM taking much notice, the GOP has been taking over state legislatures across the US and is getting VERY close to a CC.  The GOP currently controls 30.  They need to pick up 4 more.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_state_legislatures

To reach 34 state legislatures the GOP needs:

(1) Virginia: needs 2 more senators.
(2) Alaska: needs 2 more House reps.
(3) Minnesota: needs 4 more House reps.
(4) Nevada: needs 6 more House reps and 2 more senators

However, to ratify any changes, you need 38 state legislatures.

(5) Oregon: needs 8 House, 4 senators
(6) Colorado: 9 & 4
(7) Washington state: 9 & 5
(8) Maine:  20 & 4
(9) New Mexico: 21 + 12

Still its not impossible to attain 8 more, just difficult at this point.

What would they do with this? The GOP is toothless all bark. They will continue to do the same thing. Try and avoid being called racist and lining their pockets with corporate donations.

Not a bad idea, seeing as a bunch of middle-aged white guys held the last one.

one of the interesting aspects about this is that the Constitution doesnt give any guidelines really.  The Constitution says almost nothing about a Constitutional Convention.  They could do anything.

there are no guidelines for how they would bring amendments to the table, how the voting process would take place, how long the process would be.  we dont know what it would look like.  who sets the rules?  we dont know.  could they change the rules in the middle of the convention?  sure.

The GOP isn't getting to 34 let alone 38 because the Dems aren't going to just vanish. If by some miracle they did get to 38, they'd still have to get a large number of Brad Ratshitburgers to buy in.

Why do Republicans want to change the constitution? What do they want to change?

To reinforce federalism would be nice. That means essentially states can chose to do what they want within their jurisdictions. Along the way, the south needed two big kicks in the ass course corrections, one for slavery and one for Jim Crow. And so federalism kind of fell by the wayside. It's hard to pick up the arguments of disreputable sh*tbags like Bull Connor and John Calhoun. Now that those things are fifty-five years corrected, it's time to dust off the original idea because the blue states are going crazy and still think they ought to dictate and impose policies beyond slavery and civil rights.

this has been collated elsewhere and the top priority seems to be stricter term limits at the federal level.  Among the issues tackled would be stopping the federal government from going bonkers on climate change, limiting their power to set education standards, etc.

But I think the enormous target is the thing Rush Limbaugh complained about his entire life - the Equal Protection clause in the 14th amendment.  That single clause has been used as a big loophole to lots of big government programs.  There would be NO QUESTION they would strike that down.  Of course, liberals will say republicans are being mean to people in need.  But what republicans want is private charities to fill the gap.  Its VASTLY better for a private charity to help the poor because, well, private charities dont have standing armies nor an army of feds to enforce their will - - charities must play nice.

it tells me a lot that no one here mentioned the Equal Protect clause yet.  Limbaugh complained about that constantly for decades.  I don't think anyone here listened to him.  If you learned anything from him, it would be that the Equal Protection clause is extremely damaging to the republic.

They won't do anything because the losers at the top of the party like the $ they steal in the current system. They aren't gonna mess with that gravy train although they will dupe the masses into thinking they will.

The fact that you think it's notable in some way that people here didn't listen to Rush Limbaugh tells me a lot.

you are already an etablished liar, so no-one should digest your opinion on anything.

its notable because, if you have a group that didnt listen to Rush Limbaugh, then i know if i reference stuff rush said over the years, they likely arent going to recognize it.

as i already said, you lie in the same way CNN lies.  lies of omission.  you find things you think support your lies and ignore everything that stands against it.  ive told you this multiple times before and you keep ignoring it.  thats how i know you are a liberal.  liberals have the same blind spot in their logic.

even in the post i just quoted, you have fully admitted you want to do it again and wear it like a badge of honor.  quoting a bunch of quotes without the full context makes you a liar.

in short, take the fockin L.  you are just embarassing yourself.

I don't understand why you care if we know you think a civil war is coming.  It's pretty obvious.  Yes, you did say you aren't making a prediction.  Then you have another 25 posts where you clearly are predicting a civil war.

I suppose you could just be a terrible communicator where you post things you don't believe just for the hell of it, and then you claim you don't necessarily believe it, but then why post your own feelings and thoughts that clearly support the articles you post?  Makes no sense.

Clearly no one cares what we post around here.  Why the games?

thats NOT what you did.  you tried to find any evidence i was predicting civil war and intentionally omitting all the places where i clearly and unequivocably said i am not predicting it.  instead of asking me to clarify, you made a massive, lying, troll post.  shoot first, ask questions later huh?  go fock off.

i guarantee i will keep shiitting on you the rest of your time on this forum.  you are a JOKE and just trying to weasel out of it like a typical lib.

I’d like to put something in the constitution: No more paid lobbyists. Then you would have a much better representation of the people.

i dont think its that simple.  if you start restricting lobbying, then the MSM gets tremendously more power.  If I can't lobby my elected official, or its restricted, then a company like CBS is more powerful because they can use their broadcast to influence voters and the elected, while I cannot do anything to express my point of view.  That's the big danger with John McCain's Campaign Finance Reform.  McCain would exclude ads so now the MSM can say anything and cannot be countered.  But at the same time, John McCain was a democrat that refused to join the party because he didn't want to associate with the antiwar left.

I speculated at the time though that had McCain somehow gotten CFR enacted, it would force republicans to start purchasing networks or movie houses so that they can produce films and TV that contained a republican point of view to get their message out and, in that way, skirt around the CFR rules.
