SCOTUS Justice Clarence Thomas has received more than $4 million in gifts over the last two decades

CNN —

Justice Samuel Alito was not present on Friday morning as the Supreme Court handed down opinions in the courtroom, the second day in a row he has been absent.

Alito’s absence, for which the Supreme Court has not provided an explanation, is unusual because it’s the end of the term and the justices have issued nine opinions over the last two days.

One of the opinions on Friday included upholding a federal law that bars guns for domestic abusers, rejecting an argument pressed by gun rights groups that the prohibition violated the Second Amendment.

Alito has been in the news recently for controversial flag displays outside of his properties, including a US flag that was flown inverted outside the justice’s home in 2021 and another flag that was on display during the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol that was flown outside Alito’s vacation home in New Jersey.

They should’ve mentioned the “gifts” and delayed disclosure forms as well. Actually the latter might be interesting as he got a 90 day extension for this year and is the only Justice who hasn’t filed it yet 🤔

There’s more :shocking:

CNN —

Justice Clarence Thomas took a previously undisclosed flight on a private jet owned by GOP megadonor Harlan Crow in 2010, a top Senate Democrat said Monday – the latest in a series of revelations that come as the high court is under pressure to strengthen its ethics practices.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden said US Customs and Border Protection records reviewed by the committee showed Thomas and his wife, Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, flew from Hawaii to New Zealand on Crow’s jet on November 19, 2010, and then returned on the jet a week later.

The flight was not listed on Thomas’ financial disclosure reports and is the most recent example of the conservative justice accepting luxury travel from Crow becoming public. Earlier examples of that travel documented by ProPublica last year – including travel on Crow’s yacht, the Michaela Rose – prompted widespread calls for ethics reform at the court.

“Neither Mr. Crow nor Justice Thomas have disclosed the full scale of the Thomas’s use of the Michaela Rose and private jets courtesy of Mr. Crow, even as the Congress continues to uncover additional international private jet travel with Mr. Crow that Justice Thomas failed to disclose on his ethics filings,” Wyden wrote in a letter to Crow’s attorney on Monday.

It's okay, because we only care cause he's generally pro-conservative.  IF he were pro-liberal, we wouldn't care about this at all.

All morals only extend as far as the R or D next to someone's name.

Would the post right before yours be an example of that? Just curious

Either:

CT: Knew or suspected the gifts were inappropriate.

+ In which case he's a corrupt crook.

OR CT thought there was absolutely nothing unethical or untoward.

+ In which case he's a f****** idiot without the necessary judgment skills to judge a beauty pageant much less reside on scotus.

Democratic senators ask attorney general to criminally investigate Clarence Thomas

A pair of Senate Democrats has asked the Justice Department to criminally investigate Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas over travel given as gifts and a loan for a luxury car from wealthy donor friends.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., who chairs the Judiciary subcommittee on federal courts, and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden of Oregon sent a letter last week asking Attorney General Merrick Garland to appoint a special counsel to examine whether Thomas violated federal ethics and tax laws when he didn't disclose as income more than $267,000 of a loan that was allegedly forgiven in 2008.

Legally, he's had to file these disclosure forms for 20 years and failed to disclose over 5 million dollars of gifts, he literally signs these forms "under penalty of perjury".

Ultimately, I don't think that our system of checks and balances is going to do anything about this, that's wrong.

When you can't get your justices on the bench the proper way, then make something up and do an end-around!!!

This will come back to bite the Democrats in the @ss should they attempt to do this.

Since he has since disclosed most all of this on revised disclosure forms, please tell me what part is made up?

This is absolutely nothing more than an attempt to get a Democrat justice seated.  I'm sure if we dug hard enough we could find dirt on all of the liberal justices but, conveniently, the don't do any digging on them.

You're not going to convince anyone this is above board.  It's an end-around to the Constitution, nothing more.  Sour grapes.

There’s a 10 page thread about it that you just posted in. HTDS.  Mess you up.

The 10-page thread is about Thomas receiving millions worth of trips and gifts from a GOP donor, not a book deal, jackass. 🤦‍♂️

No, it’s about gifts to SCOTUS. That’s why nobody complained about Thomas’ $1.5m book deal either.

Indeed. A book deal is not looked upon as a gift to a member of SCOTUS (I suppose it could be...but it would have to be in a situtation where a publishing house had an upcoming case before the court, which is possible but highly unlikely).

HT saw a link about a book deal and rushed over here to spread his butt cheeks and beg for negative male attention. He didn’t stop to think this one through.

You mean like when Random House paid Sotomayor 3 million dollars and then she refused to recuse herself from their cases that the SC voted on?

Yeah, nothing suspicious about this book deal that had zero chance of being profitable.
