Russian coup

Since the Ukraine thread has been literally hijacked by the usuals, there's a lot of stuff going on in the Russia, Ukraine, Belarus. The head of Wagner almost launched a coup against Putin? There's some Air Force Commander who might be involved too?

 

Wish I was more up to speed.   Anybody have a handle on this?

Not surprised at your reaction. It was a "Blink and you missed it" uprising. If you went fishing or hiking that day, you wouldn't know the difference by the time you got back home.

The coup was over just as the band started warming up. They left the fireworks at home so we got much less hilarity and entertainment out of it than we expected and deserved.

The story goes something like this....

The Wagner group was a small paramilitary force that Russia doesn't treat the best. Wagner then recruited a ton of Russian prisoners to fight for them and they started winning several key battles.

Wagner asked Putin to respect them more and Putin said "no". So Wagner decided to March to Moscow to overthrow Putin.

Putin reminded Wagner that the Russian military supplies all their guns and Ammo, at which point Wagner said "oh yeah".

Then Wagner found a bunch of money in some suitcases and went to Belarus.

Now the Wagner leader said he was just joshing with Putin.

Putin's leadership style is to keep his generals on their toes and not let them get too comfortable in their jobs, even getting them to be cross with each other.  Its a classic leadership method to control your lieutenants.  Putin withheld ammo from Prigozhin and his Wagner group at one point and it appears to have set him off to protest everything.  But they worked everything out, possibly he got paid or they threatened his family, and so he's still around. 

Its notable that Trump has the same leadership and negotiation style as well.  Trump will dump oceans of praise on someone and then wheel around and snap at them, publicly shaming them.  Or he threatens North Korea with war and then suddenly decides to meet with their leader, Kim Jong Un.

It wouldnt shock me for Putin to turn around again and praise Prigozhin and pin some medals on him.  Always keep your lieutenants off balance.

So what happens with the Wagner forces now? Do they get a new leader? Do they pull out and disband? Do they join the Russian military? Seems like Putin can't afford to loose them.

They will build up strength in Belarus until the time is right.  Then get a payday to march to Kiev.

Russia is in a "special military operation" with Ukraine and not an official war.  Russia needs Wagner as Russia wants to spare as much of its military as possible for a future war with NATO.

I don’t think the mercenary army, or anyone in that focked up government they have going on, operates normally or predictably. Bunch of murderous trash.
