Voltaire 5,203 Posted September 5, 2023 Lions found the right time to play them: no Jones, no Kelce. If they are actually contenders, they need to put a beatdown on this team missing two of their top three players. It'll be a huge disappointment if the Chiefs can actually pull this off.

Are the Lions really there as a team? I know the OL is very good and they have a few weapons (Sun God and Gibbs). Didn’t the D suck last year?

KC is still at home and have perhaps the best player ever leading them. They have won nearly 80 percent of their home the last 5 years (32-9). When the defending Super Bowl Champs are turning to excuses when they are playing the Lions at home, it is really funny.
FrancieFootball 96 Posted September 5, 2023 Just a hyperextension and no damage. Status unknown for Week 1, but this could have ruined my team had it been an ACL tear or something.

seafoam1 2,805 Posted September 6, 2023 The line is Chiefs -5 at -110. I'm not touching this game but would love to see mahomes get his ass kicked.
WhiteWonder 2,681 Posted September 6, 2023 meh. When the Chiefs lost Tyreek, how'd that work out? Taking nothing away from the Lions who are on the rise but it doesn't matter if Mahomes is without Kelce for this game. Guy will find a way to utilize Moore, MVS, Toney, McKinnon, etc, etc.

Didn’t the D suck last year? The secondary has been completely overhauled through free agency. They signed Chauncey Gardner Johnson, Cam Sutton, and Emannuel Mosby and all accounts are 2nd round pick Brian Branch has been a stud in preseason. Meanwhile the young talent on the D-Line and linebackers who started to gel the second half of last year are coming into their prime. The Lions should easily win their division and may well be the third best team in the conference. They get a test to see how well it all comes together in week one. Without Kelce and Jones and that other starter whatshisface, the Chiefs are as beatable as they're ever going to be. The football gods are handing this win to the Lions if they can step up and take it.

Focker is welcome to take his ten plus two days of rest and come back and play against the Bears, Vikings, Packers, and everyone else. Good luck with him, non-Lions. Meanwhile the AFC is full of solid teams looking to steal the first round bye and playoff homefield advantage out from under KC. They'll be pleased for an 0-1 start to the season KC will have to dig themselves out of. Maybe KC panics and gives in to Jones' unreasonable ransom demands. He'll also return sooner or later and be somebody else's problem, good luck with that as well. For tomorrow, no Kelce + no Jones = a Lions win ripe for the taking vs last year's 17-3 defending champs

But I hope you’re right and Detroit is the 2nd best team in the NFC after Philly. I have a bad feeling it finally is Dallas year. My hope rest on McCarthy being a bad coach and Dak choking again. I have a bad feeling it finally is Dallas year. My hope rest on McCarthy being a bad coach and Dak choking again. Detroit's O-Line is first rate and if you give Goff time, he can get things done. Also David Montgomery and whatever they do with Gibbs will be going against a seriously depleted KC D-Line missing their best player. The KC defense starts with Chris Jones while the O runs through Kelce. KC week one 2023 is vulnerable. They're not 2022's 17-3 Kansas City team. They're gutted of two elite stars. They more resemble 2022 Green Bay, a team the Lions destroyed twice last year and now the secondary has been greatly upgraded in the offseason and their young studs are collectively entering their prime. The 53 players the Lions put out week one are better than the 53 the Chiefs will be able to put out. You can't just replace elite talent like Kelce and Jones with next man up. I'm not going to claim the Lions are better than KC, only that in week one they are. The next sixteen weeks are somebody else's problem.
WhiteWonder 2,681 Posted September 6, 2023 I still don't see Detroit winning this game but Jared Goff is underrated, Amon-Ra, Gibbs, Montgomery, Williams when he returns from gambling and even Marvin Jones/Josh Reynolds form a nice group of weapons on offense. Hopefully Sam LaPorta blossoms quickly. Brian Branch and CJGJ were excellent adds on defense. I still think San Fran will be the team to beat in the NFC (pending Bosa) with Philly right behind. Dallas and Minnesota will be uninspiring playoff teams. interested to see what Seattle can do but Detroit can easily be #3 in the conference
JustinCharge 2,397 Posted September 7, 2023 Andy Reid + Patrick Mahomes is so deadly its hard to ever pick against the Chiefs. theres really a skill gap there between them and the rest of the NFL.

There's also a major skill gap between Detroit's offensive liine and KC's defensive line. Dan Campbell loves to go for it on 4th down because his O-Line usually wins the trench battles against other teams' D-Line and KC will have to figure this out while missing two starters, including their best defensive player.
