thegeneral 2,973 Posted October 3, 2023 LINK Very historic, only happened once and it was 100 years ago. No one really sure what happens here. Do the Dems save him, do they let this shetshow implode, would Dems rather deal with McCarthy and let him be a buffer with the nuts, do more Republicans join the McCarthy haters… Lots of ways this can go. The Real timschochet 6,489 Posted October 3, 2023 Not a fan of McCarthy at all but it would be better for the country if he is saved. However it needs to be tied to Ukraine funding.

thegeneral 2,973 Posted October 3, 2023 Saw an interview with a Republican lady from a district in OK. She said something like 95% of Republicans in Congress are with McCarthy. Without Dems that’s not enough though.
BeachGuy23 642 Posted October 3, 2023 Why are conservatives against funding Ukraine now? A lot of the money goes right into the US economy. Surely you don't want the US government to use the money to pay citizens or anything right? We've all seen the inflationary results of that. Russia looks weak, their economy is in shambles, NATO is united and the US is the clear leader, and Europe is largely united behind Ukraine. Why are conservatives against our Ukraine support exactly?
IGotWorms 4,057 Posted October 3, 2023 Man the democrats are savaging him. I almost feel bad for the guy. Apparently the only thing the democrats and republicans can agree on is that McCarthy is an untrustworthy, dishonest piece of crap

And I understand that we can't fund them forever. But truth is these payments are a drop in the bucket of our budget and a lot of the money goes right into the US economy via defense contractors. 1

thegeneral 2,973 Posted October 3, 2023 Looks like McCarthy is donezo. Dems say they won’t save McCarthy. There are enough Republicans to bounce him. This is a no-brainer, the only reason you hear otherwise is that the right is in Putin’s pocket and reflexively are against anything Biden and NATO are for 3

Originally I was fine with it but it's getting a bit much now. I think the United States and NATO should continue to support Ukraine to the point at which the offensive gains back all the land it's going to get and then put pressure on the two sides to negotiate something, like Ukraine letting Russia keep whatever it still holds, Russia pay some reparations and Russia gives its blessings to Ukraine to join NATO so this doesn't happen again. Russia is just losing ground at this point and doesn't stand a chance of reversing this, and Ukraine's offensive is going to get bogged down with the fall rainy season and then winter. Time to wrap up this chit. But as long as Ukraine keeps winning back territory, I'm fine with the United States supporting this. We're weakening a longtime enemy without shedding any of our own blood, and the world is a better place for it.
