Every single year in every single presidential election there are always two slates of electors for every state. They do this in case there is a challenge. It’s again not unprecedented. Apparently you had no problem when democrats did it in 1960. And apparently you have no problem when democrats challenged the election results in 2016. I understand.

you do realize that california even selects republican electors every election, and Montana has democrat electors as well

again this is done in EVERY single election, whether they are used or not depends on if a lawsuit is filed that challenges the election
