Three Body Problem

Recommended Posts

Anybody else checking this out on Netflix?

It's the best thing I've watched in quite a while.  Sci-fi with an engaging story and characters you actually GAF about.

This is the first of hopefully several more season.

Is it new?

Yes out a week or so.

Supposedly the most expensive netflix show ever.  Based on some Chinese sci-fi novels.

Watched it.  Pretty meh.  But i did power through it.

However. The science?  Please.

How does this alien species, that has supposedly been watching us all the time, not know that one thing about us and have to find out from little red riding hood?  Blah.

Dont get me started on the ship problem.

Also....one guy ordered every particle accelerator to do the same thing at the same time?  Pish.

I’m going to watch the last episode tonight.

I sort of disliked it early on - the virtual reality bits were pretty cheesy. But it’s won me over. I’ve seen shows and movies about an imminent alien invasion before but never a show where 1) the aliens aren’t expected to be arrive for 400 years and 2) they’re more advanced than us now but progressing technologically at a slower pace than humanity. It’s an interesting angle. It’s also sort of unclear whether they’re truly malevolent or even what they’re like.

My wife read the series and said they compressed the first book a lot to fit it into a season. It’s a trilogy so I guess we can expect 2 more seasons.

I’d give it a 3.5 / 5. Definitely not must watch TV but pretty good.

It is planned for 3 seasons.

I’m loving it.  I’m friends with one of the guys in the production staff.  He actually got his name in the credits, which he never got with GOT.

3 minutes into the first episode and the first thing they show is a huge rally of the Democrat Party.  They really are no different than Mao's Cultural Revolutionaries - mindless, violent zealots beholden to dogma and the cult - that's why it was so easy to assume and believe that it was a Democrat rally.

The only thing missing was the pink pvssy hats in place of Mao's dunce caps.  Other than that, there is literally no difference between today's liberal and Mao's zealots.

I read the books, which are fantastic. I wasn't sure if China would allow netflix to... do what netflix does.

13 minutes in and it's already unbelievable.  Girl in bar says to dude that she "designs self-assembling synthetic polymer nanofibers and started a company that manufacters them."

Okay, I can believe in aliens and and time travel stuff, but that's just too much suspension of disbelief right there.

Thanks for the heads up.  Wife and I will be needing a new series to watch soon.

Need to wrap up the Guy Ritchie series "The Gentlemen" first.

It's good.  Funny and fast paced in typical Guy Ritchie fashion.  Ended up turning on subtitles though as the quick and heavily accented English is hard to follow at times.

Ah nice. Yeah, I’ve seen it but I haven’t quite started it up yet, but it did look interesting. Might check it out.

I mean, if one of the most insufferable people in this board likes it it must be really good. Hah…jk jk

Boyos give it at least 3 episodes.  If you don’t like it after that feel free to come in here and mock me.

And I won’t ever destroy you back per my usual.

I did sort of chuckle at the idea of this obvious Instagram model being among the greatest scientific minds in the world.

Right? She didn't sell that line at all.  Totally took me out of the show for a few seconds.

Not to mention the fact that they gender-swapped her character for this show.  In the book, her character is a dude.  And in the Chinese series (just called 3 Body), it's also a dude.

The show is still pretty good, though.

My wife keeps telling me what they got wrong or had to condense / remove from the books. Having not read them, all I can go on is the show. I hated the VR stuff and some of the choices of actors Is a little dubious but overall it was fine. I’d watch another season.

Yeah, me too.  I'm invested for the long haul so they got my attention.  I like this kind of stuff anyways.

It's a good thing they did since these writers screwed up the last 2 seasons of Game of Thrones.  They owed us fans, bigly.

Even though I’m enjoying it, there are several issues.

The Santi decide to annihilate humans after learning humans lie.  But Episode 1 opens with them already attempting to destroy our scientific community and that is well before they learn about lying.

Also, lying is such a part of humanity that it seems improbable they wouldn’t have known already.

Also, humanity faces annihilation because of one dude’s inability to explain FICTION.

How do the Santi understand the reason why their coming isn’t being vociferously declared to the world?  Don’t they question why knowledge of their coming is a secret club?

Not to mention.  We were earned by a pacifist san ti to not contact them again.  So isnt that san ti a liar?

He was at least being deceitful by secretly warning that Chinese chick not to contact them again.

They switched out the man character to à female?   Lol.
