From the Twitters:

The @realDonaldTrump team are saying that every candidate gets a post convention polling bump averaging 2 to 5 points & that @KamalaHarris' bump will be small & temporary.

Interesting fact, Trump didn't get a polling bump at all after his convention.

Interesting fact. He had just been shot and got a huge bump from that and the debate. There wasn’t much to go up after that

So you really think there isn’t a businessman alive who would take 5 bks in 500 companies ad be a billionaire?? Cool story. What fantasy world do you live in

I don’t think that Trump is a good businessman. I base this on the fact that if 40 years ago he had simply taken the inheritance he received from his father and stuck it all in a bank, he would be considerably wealthier than he is now. I think Trump is a con man and you’ve been suckered in by him.

Poll was taken by Fairleigh Dickinson University (which I've never heard) but still fun to see. 😀

Vice President Harris holds a 7-point edge over former President Trump nationally in a new poll.

Actually no. He got an approval rating increase for being shot at (not much) but no increase in terms of the election. Even the debate didn’t help him as much as many projected it would (including me).

Well said.

It will be interesting to see where the polls go post RFK....but with stunts like the R's trying to disenfranchise voters in Arizona....I think the Republicans know they're not in a good spot right now.

Intellectual laziness… if tariffs and taxes were the same thing there wouldn’t be a need for different words.  As previously stated, they appear in entirely different sections of the US Code.  Even conceptually they are entirely different animals:

Key Differences Between Tax and Tariff

  • Purpose: Taxes primarily fund government expenditure, while tariffs regulate international trade.
  • Scope: Taxes apply to domestic transactions and income, whereas tariffs affect imports and exports.
  • Revenue Generation: Taxes generate revenue for the government, while tariffs may generate revenue or protect domestic industries.
  • Impact: Taxes redistribute wealth and influence economic behavior, while tariffs impact the cost and availability of imported goods.
  • Administration: Taxes are administered by government agencies, while tariffs involve customs authorities and international trade organizations.

Who pays the tariff? The importer or the exporter?

What numbers are you using to make that statement?  I don't think any of us knows either his inheritance or net worth to judge this accurately.  All we can use are estimates.  The total inheritance speculated by the NY Times was $413MM (in 2018 dollars).  That means they used discount rates to get to that time valued amount.  In 2024 Forbes estimated his worth at $7.5B.  Quick math is you'd have to grow $413MM at over 18x to get to $7.5B.  That's also penalizing him for the discount rate, whatever that rate the NY Times used was.  My guess is that discount rate would roughly track what you could make in a safe bank account.  Again, a lot of vague numbers there.  Maybe there are some other numbers out there that differ, but I had to use something to evaluate it.  If those numbers are remotely accurate, someone growing an amount at 18x after the initial amount is adjusted for time value of money is way above leaving it in a bank.

These articles are everywhere

I recall this. Article is old, S&P up another 15% prolly since then.

He also has to live on his money and def burns through cash so the life he has lived has been a lot better with how he has done it versus living like a hermit with money in the market just growing (even though he’s a huge piece of shet 😂).

Interesting.  Totally possible it's that way as well, even if they factor in depreciation on a tax basis.  That's a totally different hurdle than the safety of a bank account.  Granted, his lifestyle takes a healthy bite out of it as well, so it's not like it's ever available to be 100% invested either.

Everything he said is fact

You have an odd definition of “facts”. A few hours ago you wrote that Trump only inherited one million dollars. Before that you asserted that Obama is a Muslim.

If you’re going to consistently insist on falsehoods there’s probably no point in further discussion.

A tariff is a tax. Not technically otherwise. It’s a tax period.

Then by your usage the Affordable Care Act and also the Inflation Reduction Act were also taxes, which of course they were not...and if you are using a non-political stance.....neither are tariffs

No, economists do not disagree about this, because tariffs add to the cost that consumers pay.

Welker: Do you acknowledge that consumers will ultimately pay more if there are more tariffs. Do you acknowledge that?

Vance: No, I don’t. Economists disagree about the effects of tariffs..

No I said trump got a million referring to what’s known as what his father gave him to start.  What he received 40 years later has zero relevance

and as far as Obama. I just quoted what he himself said.  So again. That’s a fact

Today, JD Vance:

— Doubled down on their plan to impose a Trump Tax that would cost middle class families $3,900 a year

— Refused to apologize for attacking women as “childless cat ladies”

— Promised to reinstate Trump’s policy separating children from their mothers

— Defended Trump’s election denialism and conspiracy theories

3 out of 4 of those are reasons to support him. And the tax one isn’t fact
