That’s closer but still not quite what he said.  He said “doesn’t love them back in equal measure.”  It could still love them just not as much as they love the country.

So partly for that reason, no I don’t really have an issue with him saying that.  I don’t have a problem even if he does mean “lack of love.”   While race relations in this country are far better than when Biden wasn’t senile, there’s still room to improve.  

Like I said earlier the main comment in his speech that I had an issue with is him blaming “white supremacy” for “black men dying in the streets.”  I’m honestly not quite sure if he’s referring more to gang violence or blacks being unjustly killed by cops.  We know blacks being unjustly killed by cops is very rare (but not nonexistent), and I’m not sure how white supremacy would be to blame for gang violence.  I of course am on record as saying systemic racism and white privilege exists and contributes to blacks being more likely to be poor.  But there is no excuse for murder.

That's exactly what I said in the post you quoted.   

Some people argue that a lack of caring is worse than a strong emotion like hate.  Regardless, it's a terrible message to tell a group of graduates.  The message should be "while there are still some obstacles out there, you guys are prepared to chew bubblegum and kick ass.  And you are all out of bubblegum!" In other words, positive in their ability to overcome whatever life throws at them.

I've repeatedly said that it was not the time or place for Butker to make those comments.  I also proposed a better way for him to get across what I believe to be his point.  I gave a personal life example as well.  

No, I'm not equating them, inasmuch as being a pedo is worse than thinking women don't know better.  So I guess the sarcasm line is somewhere between those two?

I think my story is a great example.  My wife graduated, got a job, we met at work.  We mutually decided for her to stay home with the kids.  Much later we had some financial issues, and the kids were older, and she went back to work.  Now, I've retired because of my cancer and she is our primary earner.  Her college education gave her the flexibility to focus on career or family based on our situation.  That IMO is true feminism, true freedom for a woman.

I wouldn't have used that phrasing.  Also, I've stated that the message should have been about having the flexibility to do what the family needs, with priority toward the children.

Also also, I've stated earlier in this thread how my wife got pressure, as a female engineer, to stay with her career.

my interpretation is that he is vocalizing his opinion that women were lied to about the whole concept of ambition and professional growth during and by the women's movement for equal opportunity. I believe that he is encouraging them to be SAHM (which i have zero issue with families making these decisions). I am not stating the women should feel bad about SAH. I think he is shaming those who decide to pursue careers.

I agree with you that he is advocating for women to stay at home and raise their kids.  Where I think we differ is I don't think he is suggesting that women walk out of the auditorium and marry the first guy they run into.  There will be some amount of time between now and having babies.  

I also disagree with the word "shaming."  It is all positive words about motherhood and his wife.  He never says anything to shame them IMO.

imo, he is directing them to seek their MRS and hold their careers as secondary or tertiary priorities. As a father, it would have been wonderful to spend more time with my child, but we (all) need to hunt to better our situations.

That’s not exactly what you said though.  You asked if he was referring to “lack of love,” and I said his statement could also be referring to that there IS love just not as much love as is being given by the person.
