jerryskids 6,792 Posted June 13, 2024 It's Garland's turn. Quote WASHINGTON (AP) — Merrick Garland became the third attorney general in U.S. history to be held in contempt of Congress Wednesday as Republicans moved to punish the Justice Department for refusing to turn over audio related to President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents. Contempt is one of U.S. lawmakers’ politically messiest and, until recent years, least-used powers. It is a tool that the House and the Senate can employ either to coerce compliance with a subpoena or to remove any obstruction from an ongoing investigation. By approving a contempt resolution, the House effectively recommended that Garland be prosecuted. And recent cases against allies of former President Donald Trump including Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro have proved that a contempt resolution is far from symbolic, creating the basis for a case that can sometimes hold up in court. https://apnews.com/article/garland-contempt-biden-classified-documents-justice-department-bc2fb71b225ae672eb257ee2055cfa67
Mike Honcho 5,269 Posted June 13, 2024 Quote GOP lawmakers — led by Reps. Jim Jordan and James Comer — decided to move ahead with holding Garland in contempt for refusing to fully comply with a congressional subpoena issued as part of their probe into special counsel Robert Hur’s decision not to charge the Democratic president with any
thegeneral 3,208 Posted June 13, 2024 What was the reason for the tapes versus the transcript. As an aside Merrick Garland has serious Dukakis vibes. Not his fault but looks like a and comes across like a punching bag.
Strike 5,538 Posted June 13, 2024 The WH has already said he's immune so the DOJ won't be acting on this. Our government is becoming more of a joke on a daily basis.
Hardcore troubadour 15,420 Posted June 13, 2024 The DOJ has already admitted that the transcripts differ from the audio. But it doesn’t matter. Congress has the right to the audio. And Garland can hide behind the president invoking executive privilege.
thegeneral 3,208 Posted June 13, 2024 Read this article and a skimmed a couple more. It seems pretty clear this is purely political on both sides. Not sure what the typical process is here I guess. I would say if Cormer and Gym Jordan are out front it’s not good for your case I honestly think both of these guys would let Trump fock their wives, rename their dog, while they picked up his laundry.

Better than letting Biden molest your kids. Or even raise his own

Engorgeous George 2,331 Posted June 13, 2024 With the information having been released in a transcript the argument for Presidential immunity is so weakened as to be non-existant. The remaining argument is a new one. They want campaign immunity. They don't want it released as they fear it will hurt the campaign, not the Office of the President. I think we have the right to witness the mental acuity of our president. the special prosecutor basically said Biden is incompetent to stand trial over the documents he misplaced. Well, let's see. This is what some of us have been saying all along; I guess they finally admitted it as a last resort. 3 minutes ago, shadrap said: I think we have the right to witness the mental acuity of our president. the special prosecutor basically said Biden is incompetent to stand trial over the documents he misplaced. Well, let's see. Yes, particularly because of Hur's comment. If he hadn't used that as a reason for not recommending prosecution, the request for the video would be less strong. But Biden is still going to be POTUS for at least 7 more months; we have the right to see if we think he can do that, let alone another 4 years.
