More than 1,000 users reported a Grindr outage in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area around 4pm on Tuesday, according to data from website Downdetector. Savvy social media users quickly picked up on the spike. X user ‘Computer_Gay’ posted on Tuesday saying: ‘Grindr experiencing outages due to unprecedented traffic in Milwaukee, WI.’ After the reported app crash, gay ex-Congressman George Santos posted a video on social media site X claiming ‘Grindr executives are calling the RNC convention the Grindr Superbowl’. The GOP convention began on Monday in the midwest city and is set to finish on Thursday. Come on, it's fun. You can be gay and conservative,’ he added. ‘But look, Grindr is already outing you anyway based on the hits and guess who is in town? It's all you conservatives.’ Grindr representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Gay hookups have reportedly spiked around gatherings of Republicans in the past. Users reported an increase in traffic around the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) outside Washington, D.C. in March last year. There were no such reports around the conference this year, held in February at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland.
