Attorney General Kamala Harris wins the open Senate seat to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer in race that featured two Democrats in California.

Thanks to California's unusual primary system, in which the two top finishers from the June primary advance to the general election, voters were deciding between Harris and Democratic Rep. Loretta Sanchez.

The victory for 51-year-old Harris makes her the first Indian-American senator. Harris was backed by President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and other top Democrats.

Sanchez, a 10-term congresswoman, tried to consolidate support from Republicans and Latinos, but with little success.

Vote pandering.  Being authentic. She could have said, hey I'm primarily Indian but a large portion of my heritage is black.

Trump’s problem is he usually gets to do this stuff over years with whispers and so forth that can get amplified and spread around social media by Putin’s trolls. Like with birtherism and all his other vicious smears. He gets to sort of claim deniability in some way (“everybody says” and all that other crap) while still giving and pushing the message.

But he doesn’t have time to do that now. He has to try to compress the timeline and just come out swinging on full force.

And apparently when he does that, it becomes apparent that he’s just a miserable piece of sh1t that no one should support. Which is focking awesome. Seems like the Democrats finally figured out how to crack that Teflon

She's not of African decent, but the point of her claiming blackness is that in America it gives you the right to claim being a victim of systemic racism.

From that standpoint, she is black.  Due to the color of her skin, she would've been subjected to the same systemic racism that defines so many black American lives, and thus makes her worthy of receiving black American's votes.

Now is she going to actually do anything for black Americans?  Of course not.

I couldn't.

My ancestors arrived in the 1880s in this country and settled in North Dakota from Norway, Germany and Wales. I'm almost certain none of them had any African heritage.
