An illegal immigrant has been charged with murder after allegedly killing a 15-year-old boy who tried to protect his mother from being raped by the suspect in Kentucky, according to authorities.

Gildardo Amandor-Martinez, 36, was arrested by the Morehead Police Department and was booked on charges of murdering 15-year-old Luis Lopez, attempting to rape Lopez's mother, Aleida Lopez, and assaulting the teen's 3-year-old sister, Naomi Agrical Nunez.

Police said that authorities were called at 4:18 am to an apartment where the 15-year-old was found dead. The 3-year-old girl was also shot and was taken to St. Claire Regional Medical Center, per Fox 56. The shooting occurred at around 2:30 am on July 20.

The following Sunday, police interviewed Agrical Nunez as well as Aleida Lopez. It was determined that the mother had been in a relationship with the suspect, and was sleeping in her room with their 1-year-old son when the incident took place. 

Amandor-Martinez arrived at the apartment and wanted to have sex with Aleida Lopez. When she refused, police said that the suspect bit her on her left hand as well as above her breast. When she screamed, Luis entered the room, telling the suspect to stop. He then asked his mother if she wanted him to call the police. The mother said no, and Luis shut the door. Martinez then got dressed and Lopez said Martinez said he was taking their son.

Lopez told officers that when the suspect started to depart, he pulled out a gun and fired several rounds through the door her teenage son had just gone through. Lopez then grabbed her 1-year-old son and ran out, but realizing that her 3-year-old was inside, ran back in and told her to run.

“Fifteen-year-old Luis Lopez died trying to save his mother from this criminal illegal alien who was attempting to rape her,” DHS’s Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.

“Gildardo Amandor-Martinez is a rapist and cold-blooded killer who should have never been in this country. The Biden administration’s open-border policies allowed this monster to walk American streets and commit these evil crimes, including murder, assault, and attempted rape, against a mother and her children. ICE has placed an arrest detainer to ensure Amandor-Martinez will not be released onto America’s streets and allowed to terrorize American families again.”

ICE Arrests Old Orchard Beach Police Officer from Jamaica for Overstaying Visa

An attempted firearms purchase led to the arrest of a Jamaican citizen who the town of Old Orchard Beach had hired as a police officer, FOX News reported on Monday afternoon.

Jon Luke Evans entered the U.S. legally in September 2023, but overstayed his visa, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) stated. He was due to return top Jamaica on October 1 of that year but never boarded his flight home.

The Maine Wire contacted the Old Orchard Beach Police Department seeking information about when Evans was hired, the status of his employment and what type of vetting the department employs in its hiring process, but it did not immediately respond.

Evans was reportedly flagged by ICE when he applied tried to buy a gun for use on his job as a policeman, FOX’s Bill Melugin wrote.

“The fact that a police department would hire an illegal alien an unlawfully issue him a firearm while on duty would be comic if it weren’t so tragic,” ICE Boston Field Office Director Patricia Hyde said in a statement.

“We have a police department that was knowingly breaking the very law they are charged with enforcing in order to employ an illegal alien. ICE Boston will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing criminal alien threats from our New England communities,” Hyde continued.

In April, ICE detained a Cumberland County corrections officer for overstaying his visa. Gratien Milandou-Wamba, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, had been working at the jail as a guard, but was in the U.S. illegally.

The Healey administration has approved job training programs for “immigrants in shelters” to become a police officers, as some states have moved recently to authorize non-citizens to serve in law enforcement.

At least five training programs found at MassHire jobquest, the state’s job hunting and training resource, promote courses “Approved for: Employment Support for Immigrants in Shelters” that provide training for the “Targeted Occupations: Police Patrol Officers, Correctional Officers and Jailers, Security Guards.”

The approved trainings are at Springfield Tech and Bristol, Massasoit and Holyoke Community Colleges. 

A training may be approved by the state, but not necessarily occur or even include, any “immigrants in shelters” as trainees.

Maura Healey, the sanctuary state governor, famously told MSNBC that the Massachusetts State Police would “absolutely not” cooperate with the Trump administration plans for “mass deportations.”

According to the Law Enforcement Immigration Task ForceMassachusetts law is unclear if non-citizens can become police officers, but there are some specific departments that do require US citizenship including the State Police and Boston. 

However, the state’s license to carry a firearm law does require US citizenship and serves as a de facto citizenship requirement for all Massachusetts jurisdictions. In Massachusetts police officers are required to obtain and maintain a valid LTC.

The LTC law and any specific department requirements could be rewritten or revised by the state legislative process. 

In 2023, California and Coloradorepleaded the US citizenship requirement and are working on regulations to allow non-citizen officers to take their firearm home after work, which is a particular obstacle for DACA non-citizen officers.

Virginia and Wisconsin are among states also considering such changes. Recently, Minnesota did change state law and last fall Minneapolis hired its first non-citizen police officer, Lesly Vera, a permanent legal resident.
