If this is his thought, than he's an idiot. Trumps not in a position of strenght here because Putin knows that Trump (from his rhetoric and the rhetoric of his supporters) believes that Ukraine is corrupt and that the U.S. does not want to get boots on the ground in the Ukraine.  Regardless of an increase of aid; Ukraine will be hard pressed to win unless NATO physically gets involved and/or Putin gets overturned from inside Russia.  If Trump was a true deal-maker/wildcard....he'd advocate Russians rising up and overthrowing Putin in order to stop the war.
