Local News Stations Dropping Meteorology Teams

Recommended Posts

Are any of your local stations getting rid of their meteorology teams and switching to the national weather?  Our NBC affiliate is and I've been seeing it happen to more across the nation.

It’s one media group is what I heard that owns around 25 stations. I know Tupelo MS had theirs laid off but it was all across the country from what I understood.

I could be the "it feels like" expert. I can stand naked in the alley outside the weather station and tell the station weather guys what it feels like outside.

I feel bad for anyone losing their job, but I think most local television stations purchase a computer model forecast every week. Because of that, they don't pay the on air meteorologist much.

As long as they're decent looking with big titts I don't care where they read from.

99.9 percent of the people have a weather feed on their phones and/or visit weather dot com whenever they need to get the most uo to date weather.  Sitting around waiting until 6pm and sitting through 30-minutes of news just to get a snapshot of weather information is so useless.  I am surprised any of them still have jobs.

In tornado alley, I like having the live reporting during storms that are producing twisters.  That is the only time I watch weather on TV.

Can get some great weather forecasts online from independent guys

That's what I do but I worry some for the people that don't know how, like the elderly.  I never watch the local news but I will tune into the local stations when we have severe weather in the summer.  I guess it was bound to happen eventually.

Exactly.   It's not like the local T1ts McGee is actually coming up w the forecast herself.
