Hawkeye21 2,399 Posted January 20 Are any of your local stations getting rid of their meteorology teams and switching to the national weather? Our NBC affiliate is and I've been seeing it happen to more across the nation.

Mark Davis 398 Posted January 20 It’s one media group is what I heard that owns around 25 stations. I know Tupelo MS had theirs laid off but it was all across the country from what I understood.

jbycho 754 Posted January 20 I could be the "it feels like" expert. I can stand naked in the alley outside the weather station and tell the station weather guys what it feels like outside.

easilyscan 924 Posted January 21 I feel bad for anyone losing their job, but I think most local television stations purchase a computer model forecast every week. Because of that, they don't pay the on air meteorologist much.

Sitting around waiting until 6pm and sitting through 30-minutes of news just to get a snapshot of weather information is so useless. I am surprised any of them still have jobs. MLCKAA 574 Posted January 21 In tornado alley, I like having the live reporting during storms that are producing twisters. That is the only time I watch weather on TV.

I never watch the local news but I will tune into the local stations when we have severe weather in the summer. I guess it was bound to happen eventually.
