LIBERATION DAY: US economy now in reverse

Recommended Posts

17 minutes ago, Sean Mooney said:

Heard and McDonald Islands - a territory which sits 4,000km (2,485 miles) south-west of Australia - are only accessible via a seven-day boat trip from Perth, and haven't been visited by humans in almost a decade.

Heard Island, though, is barren, icy and completely uninhabited - home to Australia's largest and only active volcano, Big Ben, and mostly covered by glaciers.

It is believed the last time people ventured on to Heard Island was in 2016, when a group of amateur radio enthusiasts broadcast from there with permission of the Australian government.

The islands are listed by Unesco World Heritage as a rare example of an ecosystem untouched by external plants, animals or human impact.

"It's heavily colonised by penguins and elephant seals and all kinds of sea birds," said Prof Coffin, who studies the undersea geography of the islands.

According to export data from the World Bank, the islands have, over the past few years, usually exported a small amount of products to the US.

But in 2022 the US imported US$1.4m (A$2.23m; ) from the territory, nearly all of it unnamed "machinery and electrical" products.

shipments had been wrongly labelled as coming from the territories, rather than their actual places of origin.

Penguins with TDS are importing and exporting with the US. 😆

thanks for proving my point

so now even if a country "wrongly labels" something its covered.  They do fish the area as well.

so when you put it in a computer and you look at a list of countries we have in fact imported from there, and there is a net negative export

Yes when you use fake numbers and everything why should anything else matter.

When people in the public are readily willing to whitewash what you do because you are for "their team" why bother?

As a long time Trump hater, I’m sort of loving this. Either Don continues his ridiculous stint and craters the economy. Or much more likely, he takes all or most of the tariffs off before midterms. Then I get to enjoy watching MAGAs explain how this wasn’t really about US manufacturing, it was about whatever minor concessions he manages to squeeze out of some country etc.

Either way, win win! 😂

Vietnam just offered to set all US tariffs at zero.  If other countries follow will you laugh at that as well?

No! I wholeheartedly agree with Trump’s well thought out trade policy and hope he keeps going until we all reap the benefits of lower prices and a US manufacturing boom.

Why would you love if the economy is cratered?  Don’t be like the idiots here that were doing the same during Biden. Although now we might get to see what a real recession looks like unfortunately

This.

I don’t understand why anyone would celebrate bad times or bad things happening. The political results are never worth it (and they’re unpredictable anyhow.)

The economy would bounce back just like you keep saying about the stock market and a short term crash will do less long-term damage than Trump ignoring the legislative and judicial branches.

I guess the 3rd path would be for Trump’s trade war to actually be successful. I’d bet the house that won’t be the case, but I suppose it’s possible.

So you say. The market says otherwise. Jerome Powell predicts further inflation, most economists predict far worse. I think you’re wrong.

The Dow is down almost 2,000 points today.

It's down around 15 percent from the high it hit under Biden.

MAGA wet dream.

You are very ignorant about the stability of this country and it's economy.

Fear mongering rules your life. You are the one who is having a rough go of it. I am winning.

Whatever. This isn’t a game. When people lose their 401k savings that’s real money and real pain. If you think that’s a good thing there’s something wrong with you.

This shows even more how stupid you are about the market and the economy.

Please pull all of you money out of your 401k and whatever other stocks you may have. Do it now. Hurry..

Oh my...this from Ben Shapiro:

https://x.com/stillgray/status/1908142194827067592 (video clip at link)

Ben Shapiro calls Trump’s tariffs the largest tax increase on Americans in history that will decimate the economy, and one that stems from a complete misunderstanding of how international trade works and a misunderstanding of trade deficits.

Shapiro notes that the only time in history that the US had a trade surplus was during the Great Depression.

NASDAQ is on pace for its second consecutive decline of over 5%. That has only happened three other times: in 1987, 2001, and 2008.

The Stock Market has been way overvalued. These companies weren't worth the values their stocks were selling for. Much needed correction, probably more correction still needed and still to come.

This isn't a correction. This is caused by unilateral market interference.

I don't think I can ever remember both Ben Shapiro and Rand Paul agreeing with me on any issue, but if they are siding with Trump critics on the tariffs, then they should be believed.

What would have to occur for you to say to yourself “damn, maybe this was a bad idea”?

A lot.  The only time I can remember being worried about our country was 9/11.  It's going to take a lot more than these tariffs and the market dropping a few percentage points for me to get really worried.

If it doesn't work out then we make to appropriate adjustments.  We are a strong country that can take care of itself.
