Tariffs are not a long term plan. It's a bargaining chip. Pretty simple.

Liberals are focking idiots. They understand nothing.

Really? You're gonna bible thump 90% of the time, saying god's the answer. Then throw out a line here and there for. Do something government?

Obviously you don't understand politics or how to negotiate. So just stick to your lane.

Your not head coach material. You're a position coach. Just stay in your lane and say god's great. Everything else is waaaaay over your head.

If you're gonna comment on this tariff saga maybe you should have a clue as to what is happening.

Peenie knows. Questioning her just proves your ignorance.

Well Mexico has been bright to heel, and Canada is doing some performance art for the masses before they too do as asked.  Just a little patience

What are we bargaining for?

Edit: I understand using tariffs to get Mexico to tighten their border. What are we trying to get from Canada and China?

According to Trump, better border security from Canada. Policing fentanyl. An equalizer with the trade deficit which is around $63 billion.

Something is up with this Canada as the 51st state deal too. I really don't like it.

There’s almost no fentanyl coming from Canada. Tariffs only fix the trade imbalance if we start manufacturing materials in the US that we get from other countries. That’s not going to happen in 4 years. And why Canada?

The tariff thing is a stunt. We’re getting robbed by our own US businesses more than any other country. Blaming Mexico, China, etc. is just misdirecting that anger at the wrong target.

How do you know how all the fentanyl and other synthetics get here?

Trump wins every time. Liberals are so late to the party that they completely miss it.

US Customs and Border Protection says around 40 pounds of fentanyl came to the US from Canada vs around 10 pounds going the other way. More than 21,000 pounds came through Mexico during that same period.

Oh, they got it all then. You know even less about how drugs are imported than the idiot at CNN who wrote that.

So, rather than actual seized amounts... what number should we to use to analyze the situation?

Whatever amount you imagine was imported?

Beernuts said we’re using the tariffs for better border security to keep Fentanyl from coming across the Canadian border. USCB says a tiny fraction of Fentanyl coming across the border comes from Canada.

:dunno:

I'm just telling you what the stated goals are. What was happening before the tariffs obviously wasn't working. Massive trade imbalances between the US and almost every country. Other countries also tariff our goods, so it's not like the US is the first to use tariffs in the modern world.

Are we getting robbed by our own business? To a degree yes, but it's all part of the system. Big time execs get in bed with politicians, and they all play a game to extract as much from us as possible to enrich themselves while playing out their darkest fantasies via pedophilia and other things.

Just remember that when covid was going down, normal liberal citizens became best friends with big pharma and banks that wanted to debank anyone who wasn't in line with the covid lies.

Notice how often people switch from rooting from the government and  excusing their attacks on our freedoms to then hating them and calling everything out.

In his speech to Congress, Trump said: “Tariffs are about making America rich again and making America great again."

Also during his Tuesday address before Congress, Trump spotlighted an Alabama steelworker who attended the speech.

“Stories like Jeff’s remind us that tariffs are not just about protecting American jobs,” Trump said. “They’re about protecting the soul of our country.

Without the tariffs we're going to hell, Weepaws is right.  :shocking:

Why Canada? You said Fentanyl. I don’t think we’re putting tariffs on Canada cause of our 40 pound to 10 pound Fentanyl trade imbalance. So what’s the goal?

It’s okay if you don’t know. The POTUS doesn’t make it easy. He is a very emotional and inarticulate man.

You really don't understand the goal of tariffs on China?   again, think bargaining chip.  One of the issues the US has faced for a long time, and especially under democratic leadership is losing badly on trade negotiations with other countries but specifically Chiner. Which makes sense because so much cheap shit comes from China with their poor human rights record.  The threat of tariffs is (hopefully) to ultimately negotiate better trade deals for us.

We were talking about Canada.

I get the idea of tariffs on China in theory. The thing is, it could take years to build up US manufacturing and will almost certainly spike prices. Maybe you think that’s worth it in the long run, but the POTUS campaigned on lowering costs. How’s he going to do that while boosting the price of goods?

The other thing is, a lot of our own US companies manufacture overseas. Why are we trying to lower the hammer on a foreign nation like China instead of US companies that manufacture there? Apple, Tesla, GM, Pfizer etc.

The whole thing is a fake populist stunt.
