🏆California couple held in ICE detention, facing deportation after 35 years in US alien 👽 🌮 🏆 🏆

Recommended Posts

A Laguna Niguel couple who has lived in the U.S. for 35 years is being detained in a Louisiana immigration facility and faces deportation to Colombia, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement

Gladys Gonzalez, 55, and Nelson Gonzalez, 59, originally entered the U.S. without authorization near San Ysidro in November 1989, an ICE spokesperson said in a statement. Both were ordered to leave the country in 2000 after an immigration judge granted them voluntary departure, ICE said. Over the years, they pursued multiple legal avenues to stay, including appeals to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Board of Immigration Appeals and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, according to ICE.

An ICE spokesperson confirmed that neither Gladys Gonzalez nor Nelson Gonzalez has a criminal record. But the couple “exhausted all legal options to remain in the U.S. between March 2000 and August 2021,” according to ICE, and are now in violation of U.S. immigration law.

Their detention has devastated their family, who say the couple had always followed the rules.

“They have never broken the law, never missed an appointment, and this sudden occurrence has left us in shock,” the couple’s daughters, who were raised in the U.S., wrote in a GoFundMe fundraiser launched to cover legal costs and help the couple prepare for life in Colombia.

Every year, thousands of undocumented immigrants, including the Gonzalezes, attend routine check-ins with ICE. This process allows immigration officials to monitor individuals who are not considered immediate priorities for deportation while they pursue legal avenues to stay in the U.S.

But on Feb. 21, “they were put into handcuffs by their wrists and ankles and treated as criminals before getting to these detention centers,” Stephanie Gonzalez, the couple’s daughter, told KTLA. “All they said is they extended their stay, even though every year they’ve had permission to be here, and they’re law-abiding citizens who show up and are doing their duty to check in with immigration and say, ‘Hey I’m here. I’m not hiding or doing anything wrong.’ Then they just arrested them like that.”

Rep. Mike Levin, D-San Juan Capistrano, who represents Laguna Niguel and California’s 49th Congressional District, said resources should be focused on removing individuals who pose a real threat to public safety.

“If someone has no criminal background or gang affiliation, why are they a priority for deportation? This is a waste of resources that should be used to remove dangerous individuals — not break up families and target hardworking people. We need smart, effective immigration enforcement that prioritizes actual criminals, not senseless deportations.”

The family is now working to support the couple’s transition to Colombia.

they had never broken the law?  wut?

They LITERALLY entered the country illegally in 1989.

This is a "fruit from the poisoned tree" scenario.  Everything stems from them coming here illegally in the first place and it doesn't matter how "good" they might have been.

What's next?  Feel bad for murderers because they've been "good" since the murder?

Wrists and ankles is a lot better than being rear cuffed.  The Feds are soft.

Just saying that the end of one sentence claiming that they were asked to leave 25 years ago and are now in violation of the law; then the next sentence is someone stating that they "haven't broken any laws."

I think many Latinos who voted for Trump are now regretting it, as they weren't expecting anything like this (people who have lived here for 35 years and have been law abiding citizens during that time being deported).

That would have been dumb for them not to see it coming, right, trump talked about doing this.   Indeed

Not until it gets a lot worse and Latinos here start seeing their grandparents, uncles, aunts, along with friends, neighbors and co-workers being rounded up and deported in the mass sweeps that are coming.

Well, these people specifically might have abided by every law but one...and that one got them booted out.

They exhausted ALL LEGAL ways to stay; through courts, embassies, etc. They were asked to leave...and stayed.

Sorry, but if I went to another country and did this, even Canada...they'd boot me out. Not sure why this isn't understood here.

I'm not answering the question because you are have taken personal info of people and investigated them. Sharing any info online is dangerous, people like you are the reason why.

It's clear you were just throwing out random werds again, you have no idea what you were talking about or have any insight on being a minority. And I have no more inclination to try and understand anymore of your BS.

No you won't.  LOL  Remember in 2008 when Obama had the House and Senate and all they came up with was DACA where kids brought here could stay without fear of deportation?  How come they didn't make it for everyone?  How come they didn't give all the illegals at the time, a fast path to citizenship?  How come IN THE DACA bill itself, it said that the recipients could not become naturalized citizens?  How come the bill wasn't more concrete so that another President couldn't end it?  I'll tell you why.  It's because your party wanted exactly what's happening now, to happen.  They wanted to use those people as pawns for when someone like Trump can deport them and suckers like you would vote Democrat to help defend those people.  THEN, after idiots like you vote for those Democrats, they'll put another band-aid on it while pretending to take the high moral road, when all they're going to do is set these illegal immigrants up for another round.

Was Biden using them as political pawns when he was deporting illegal immigrants?  How about Obama when he was deporting them?  Or is it only political when Trump does it?  How come there weren't Democrat politicians and media outlets encouraging outrage when Obama and Biden deported those people?  The only conclusion I can draw is that it's only political when a Republican does it.

I don't care if people are being deported regardless of the President. I do care as to how the deportation is being handled and if it is for show points as opposed to just being done. I don't need to see music videos of it, and hear about how much I'm supposed to love it. Just do it and let it be it.

The way it is happening right now is turning family misery into laughs for your devotees.
