Trump wants undocumented people to be here legally so long as their employers vouch for them

This surprised me given his rhetoric on the campaign but it really shouldn’t; he’s always been more reasonable on this subject when not talking to the hysterical MAGA crowd.

It seems like a waste of time to deport people and then return them. Why not just change their status to legal? But despite that question I could be in favor of this plan.

its the same thing I have always suggested, farmer has a farm, applies to farming in his state for 50 workers, and he can hire them as temporary from mexico

why make them legal though?  They should have to contribute 50k in taxes and be put on a green card list that applies to their legality

Well I don’t know about $50k- that would take forever (perhaps that is your goal?) But I don’t mind the general idea. We can compromise on this.

Another dumb take presented to you by timmy, the libtard.

And in your next post coming up, I’m sure you’ll explain what I got wrong and why my take is dumb.

nope migrant workers make 200$ a day

thats 1k a week

20% takes thats 10k annually

paying into the system for 5 years would get them legal status

seems reasonable to me

How convenient.

So after their employer identifies and vouches for them, ICE rounds them up for deportation?

Based on that math OK. I’d actually be willing to wait 10 years or 20. So long as they have legal status and are safe from deportation so long as they don’t commit a violent crime.

Now I think you’re being too cynical. If the government truly wanted to spend the money and time going after undocumented workers in our industries it wouldn’t be that difficult. There isn’t a need for subterfuge.

Not at all after the IRS promised the undocumented that their tax information and identity would not be turned over to immigration officials.

Mine too. Actually I’ve gone further: I’ve always thought that even if an undocumented immigrant gets legal status, they should NEVER in their lifetime have the right to vote. I mean in the end they came here illegally and there’s got to be some kind of penalty for that, right? I’m not in favor of deportation but I don’t think they should be rewarded, ever, with the right of political representation. That’s my stance though I don’t know how that would work legally.

That’s a different issue and it’s mostly for show.

You need to look at the big picture here. I’ve said all along that this whole mass deportation scheme is just an act, that it will never happen. You think Trump is really going to fock the farmers, restaurant owners, hotel owners? Never. This scheme is his way of letting the MAGA folks down gently.

Same principle and those rounded up on the handy dandy lists given by their employers will be for show too...film at eleven.

Illegal immigrants get sent back to where they came from. No exceptions. No crying. No nothing. You don't get the benefits of the US if you come here illegally.

Yeah, you don’t get these great benefits that one gets in the US, overly taxed, homelessness, having to work three jobs to offered a place to live, trump and Musk destroying you financially, men dress like woman reading to children in schools and libraries, men playing in woman’s sports.  Good times, good times.

Come on.

Republicans want cheap labor.  That's why they bulk at raising the minimum wage and discourage unions.  They aren't going to throw away the cheapest labor they can get.  MAGA diehards were idiots to think their fields, their restaurant kitchens and their hotel laundry rooms would be illegal free.

>>A White House official told NBC News that Trump wants to improve the H-2A program, through which employers in the agricultural industry can hire temporary and seasonal workers, and the H-2B program, for hiring immigrant workers for temporary, seasonal jobs in other industry sectors, such as hospitality and entertainment, and in the tourism industry. Trump has used the H-2B program.<<

>>Trump has been under some pressure from industries whose workforces include undocumented workers. <<

>> American farmers also have been raising alarms about the effect Trump's tariff policies and funding cuts to federally subsidized school lunch, food banks and other such programs will have on their livelihoods.

In March, business owners and leaders rallied in Washington and met with members of Congress as part of the American Business Immigration Coalition's "Secure the Workforce" campaign, aimed at continuing the flow of immigrant workers to the United States. The group is pushing for legislation that includes, among other things, work permits for immigrant workers.<<

+++++++++++++

So pretty much the current system. And of course Trump screws up, makes the economy do summersaults, then the powers that be lobby to educate him about things everyone already knew.

This program already exists.

really?  how do I get some legal farmers?

H-2A Temporary Agricultural Program. It permits U.S. employers to hire foreign nationals for temporary or seasonal agricultural jobs, like planting, cultivating, or harvesting crops, when there aren’t enough available U.S. workers
