Department of Justice opens criminal investigation into NY AG Letitia James

Recommended Posts

Go get the racist.

The Department of Justice has opened a criminal investigation into New York Attorney General Letitia James, Fox News has learned.

Separately, the Washington Post reported that a grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia sent out subpoenas related to accusations that James misrepresented a single-family home in Virginia as her primary residence to obtain more favorable loan terms.

The DOJ and FBI declined to comment on the matter.

News of the federal probe follows a criminal referral from the Trump administration's Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte, who requested the DOJ investigate James over that matter and another incident in which she allegedly misrepresented the number of livable units in a multifamily Brooklyn house to once again obtain better loan terms

In related news her statue in Times Square is now up.  It depicts her in an angry posture adn substantially trimmer than she actually is.  The artist as yet does not admit she ws the model for the sculpture.*

This is good news, assuming DOJ has actual evidence and it's not just performative retribution.

Albany sneaks in budget language that would put NY taxpayers on the hook for Tish James’ legal bills if she’s probed by Trump admin

Taxpayers could be on the hook for New York Attorney General Letitia James’ legal bills during Justice Department probes into her alleged fraudulent real estate dealings, The Post has learned.

Albany Democrats are expected to sign off on a provision allowing certain officials to tap into a $10 million fund to cover “any reasonable attorneys’ fees and expenses incurred” — even as part of probes not directly related to their state employment.

The language is being slipped into New York’s operations budget bill — one of several expected to be made public and voted on starting Wednesday as the Legislature moves to pass next year’s fiscal plan.

Multiple sources told The Post that the specific language in the bill would apply to James’ looming legal fight.

New York Republican State Committee Chairman Ed Cox quickly lashed out over the move to slip a legal “bailout” to James, calling it an “outrageous abuse of power and a slap in the face to every New Yorker.”

"This is what corruption looks like in plain sight: political insiders rigging the system to protect their own, while hardworking families get shortchanged,” he said in a statement.

“Tish James used her office to wage partisan lawfare against her political opponents, and now New Yorkers are footing the bill for the consequences.”

Under New York law, current and former state employees can be reimbursed for legal fees to defend themselves against lawsuits directly related to their work while in office, such as is the case with former Gov. Andrew Cuomo — whose various scandals are estimated to have cost taxpayers $60 million and counting.

Oddly, Trump did not run on a platform to take her down, using any means necessary......as she did toward him.....so there is a distinction between the two.

>>Justice Department prosecutors in Virginia believe they have not gathered enough evidence to indict Letitia James, the New York Attorney General and long term adversary of President Donald Trump, for mortgage fraud, according to a source familiar with the matter and another person briefed on the matter.

The five-month investigation has featured interviews with dozens of witnesses, the source said, cautioning that the investigation is still ongoing.

Since May, prosecutors have been probingwhether James knowingly made false statements on a loan application by indicating a property in Virginia is her primary residence.

But other document collected in the case provided by James’ attorneys to the Justice Department and reviewed by CNN show James repeatedly stating the opposite. In one email to a mortgage broker, James wrote that “this property WILL NOT be my primary residence.” And on other forms that asked whether the home would be her primary residence, James checked off “NO.” …<<

Yet another person who is about to become extremely wealthy after she sues the government for malicious prosecution. You and I will be paying the millions that James will be getting. Congrats, Trump fans! “This is what I voted for”.

So you don't think she lied on a loan application to game the terms I take it?

The Trump appointed US Attorney for Eastern District of Virginia didn’t.

A grand jury of your fellow citizens determined there was enough evidence for a trial. How dare you disparage their efforts?

Not if it’s true that she repeatedly said it wasn’t going to be her primary residence.

Here’s the indictment.

It alleges an after the fact breach of contract, not fraud inducing someone to issue a loan.

As with Comey again no EDVA prosecutors are on the signature block. That means no one in her own office would participate, even junior attorneys. That’s a bad sign for Halligan.

Why are you lefties so opposed to having these charges heard by a jury of her peers?  You were so in favor of holding people accountable when the accused was named Donald Trump.  Why is this one (D)ifferent?

Eh the Trump appointed Republican US Attorney was opposed to it, and apparently all the other assistant US Attorneys. Lefties got nothin’ to do with it.

I agree with this. The grand jury should be respected, which is why it would be an extremely bad error if a lawyer went before a grave jury by herself with little knowledge of a case & no criminal law experience & misrepresented facts. That would be a really, really bad idea.
