Trump demands Walmart "EAT THE TARIFFS" and threatens the company

Recommended Posts

Look if I have a store that imports products, and the government starts charging me a 30% tax on those products, then the retail price of those products will go up. I will also lose money and there will be scarcity of those products compared to what was before. All three of these things WILL happen. This isn’t rocket science. This is exactly why I wrote these tariffs were stupid, unnecessary, a terrible idea, and will bring us pain for no good reason. The pain is just beginning.

I know. I didn't attribute it to tariffs or to Trump. Just pointing out toys can be made here and will be made here.

Any toy that is made here will be a much higher price than toys made elsewhere. Consumers won’t buy it unless you force them to by taxing the imported toys enough to make the difference negligible. But if you do that then you’re limiting the consumer’s ability to buy toys at all, effectively destroying the market you are trying to create.

An alternative would be to simply accept the fact that market conditions have changed and, despite the odd occasion like Lego choosing to build one new plant in the USA, in general certain products will never be produced in this country again. But that means embracing world trade, and globalism, and that seems to be something many people are suspicious of and seek to resist.

Do you believe that Walmart will profit from raising these prices? I don’t. They’re going to sell a lot less items. They will lose money. But they’re forced to do it anyhow because otherwise they’d lose even more.

This is coming from the guy who sells a 100 dollar bible, scam coin, and dropping his resorts all over the ME 😂

Of course they can be, and people will pay hundreds of dollars for a box of plastic bricks.  There can't be much manual effort to create them.

Why didn’t Don and Ivanka manufacture their clothing lines in the US and eat the extra labor costs?

Sure, but from a conservative POV this is the nation’s leader ordering corporations to pay a tax on their own by executive fiat.

Anyone remember the time leftists hated billionaires and billion dollar companies?  😂

Yeah, me too.  Now they're representing and defending them!!!   YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS UP!!!!!

You are like the 3rd poster to rush to whatabout this. The issue is the President’s plan to not have costs not go up because of his economic policy is to tell businesses to “eat the costs”. That’s some commie shet 😂

It’s not guaranteed that there will be scarcity, if demand drops.  And if demand drops then prices should come back down, which you seem to acknowledge in some of your other posts.  Of course the more likely outcome than businesses “eating costs” if that happens is that they cut jobs or maybe go out of business.

There can certainly be reason to buy toys (and other stuff) made here if they’re better quality, but even that isn’t always the case.  Or for people that do want to support American made products, but we know many MAGA folks in particular are hypocrites and don’t put their money where their mouth is, including many “influencers” that sell merchandise made in other countries.  And I’m not a toy manufacturing expert but I could see LEGOs being something that does require some more skill than a run of the mill toy.

It’s not even a whataboutism, it’s a straight up lie.  Only an idiot would consider someone saying, “of course they’re not going to eat the costs. And wait, isn’t China supposed to be paying the costs?” as “defending” them

You could make a strong argument that US consumers should be willing to either buy less or pay more for some goods that are built in the US.

A billionaire fraudster who lives in a gold-plated country club and spent a year promising low low Day 1 prices is probably NOT the guy to be making that argument. 😂

If people want to buy products only made in the US nothing stops them…except oh yeah it’s cheaper. There’s nothing wrong with this. It doesn’t need to be fixed and in many cases it can’t be.

Don’s next policy for making homes more affordable  - homeowners sell your home for less!

I believe this was actually @RLLD’s argument back before 2008.  Although he conveniently forgot about that time period last year when he said the 2024 economy was then worst of the lower classes lifetime

Of course they'll profit from this. It's all about appeasing the investors. Profitting is all that maters.

So let me get this straight, the Left/Liberals/and/orDemocrats are siding with Walmart? Wow

That and the fact there are many products are no longer made in the US.

Anything to defend dear leader.

It's very simple guys.  "The Left" doesn't side with Walmart or Trump.  Trump put a tax on Walmart.  Walmart is going to pass this tax to it's customers.  It is what it is.  I wouldn't expect Walmart to lower it's executive pay to cover the tax.  You shouldn't either.  Maybe recognize that what Trump is doing is stupid.

It’s not a plan to have the Prez telling a company to eat the costs of his tariff plan. It’s absurd (we won’t get into that it’s coming from the dude who milks every penny out of every sucker as a business model for his whole life).

These tariffs will be a tax on us, everyone has told you this except dipshit. The tariffs will not be paid for by other countries, everyone has told you this except dipshit.

If whoever from WM that talked about the impact of tariffs on their prices didn’t say a thing and they just began raising them on impacted items Dumbo wouldn’t have melted down and started running his mouth. He’s just butthurt that it’s being pointed out.

The only reason Don is asking Walmart to eat costs is because he doesn’t want to take the fallout for his own dumb policies.

World class hypocrite.
