ICE officials and a prison contractor have refused to grant a contact visit between Columbia grad student Mahmoud Khalil and his family, according to the ACLU, denying him the chance to hold his newborn son.

His son was born last month while Khalil remained in ICE custody in Louisiana.

A federal judge on Wednesday barred the Trump administration from continuing to detain Mahmoud Khalil.

The judge said Khalil would be released on Friday unless the government appeals.
