jerryskids 6,617 Posted 21 minutes ago Back on topic, conservatives are consistently found to be happier than liberals. Perhaps being dumb, like the OP, contributes to their unhappiness? AI Overview Learn more Research consistently indicates that conservatives report higher levels of happiness and life satisfaction than liberals. This "happiness gap" has been observed across various studies and demographics, suggesting that it's not simply due to one group having more advantages than the other. While this gap is consistently reported, the reasons for it are still debated, with factors like personality traits, moral values, and even socio-cultural contexts playing a role. Here's a more detailed look: Potential Explanations: Some theories suggest that conservatives may be happier due to their more traditional values and beliefs, which can lead to a greater sense of belonging and purpose. Others point to personality traits like neuroticism being negatively related to conservatism, potentially contributing to lower happiness among liberals. Socio-Cultural Context: The happiness gap may be less universal than previously assumed, with the extent of the gap varying depending on the specific socio-cultural context and political ideology prevailing in a particular time period or country. Moral Foundations: Research also suggests that liberals and conservatives may differ in their moral foundations, with liberals emphasizing harm and fairness, while conservatives prioritizing loyalty, authority, and sanctity. These differences in moral values could potentially contribute to differences in happiness. Further Research: Some studies question the validity of self-report measures of happiness and suggest that more objective measures are needed to fully understand the relationship between political ideology and happiness. Research Findings: Studies have repeatedly shown that conservatives report being happier and more satisfied with their lives than liberals. This is true even when controlling for factors like age, gender, and income.
listen2me 23 1,836 Posted 17 minutes ago Your thread title makes me chuckle. Who is the angry one? Perhaps some projection? Also no one was angry at Macron getting stiff armed by his ancient wife. We were laughing.
jerryskids 6,617 Posted 5 minutes ago The "happiness gap" makes sense. Conservatives are, by definition, generally happy with the status quo. Progressives, by definition, want "progress" or change. As such, progressives have an unhappiness with the status quo. One could argue that it is natural to be unhappy if there is a change you feel strongly about. I think historically this could explain progressives. But it's clear in recent years that there are a lot of people who are just fundamentally unhappy. These people seem to think that change for change's sake might make them happy, I dunno. But look at the causes celeb these days: terrorist baby-murdering Palestinian regimes, open borders, boys in girls sports, male rapists in female prisons, the list goes on. These aren't exactly like slavery or women's suffrage. It seems we've solved all the big things, so the unhappy people need to find increasingly bizarre changes to support.
