Well, maybe not but it was unexpected as Schiff so far has maintained his decorum with all the name calling by Trump.

The case against Schiff is cut and dry. His only hope is to try a PR move to get the DOJ to back down. It’s plain as day he’s a crook.

Colbert had good ratings but couldn’t get advertisers. They know the losers that watch that stupid show have no value.

Adam Schiff Talks Of Donald Trump’s “Climate Of Fear” In ‘Late Show’ Guest Appearance; Senate Democrats Raise Questions Of CBS Cancellation — Update

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert started out on Thursday with the host making the bombshell announcement that CBS was canceling the show, effective next May.

That wasn’t addressed in his interview with Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA), even though the Trump nemesis did address the president’s success in creating what he called a “climate of fear.”

“He wants to make the law firms afraid,” Schiff told Colbert. “He wants to make universities afraid. He wants to make immigrants afraid. he wants to make citizens afraid. He wants to make news organizations, CBS and Paramount afraid. He wants to make ABC afraid. And he is succeeding.”

Later, Schiff did address CBS’ decision to cancel Late Show, writing on X, “Just finished taping with Stephen Colbert who announced his show was cancelled. If Paramount and CBS ended the Late Show for political reasons, the public deserves to know. And deserves better.” [...]

The program will still run through May so they will be able engage on a long, nauseating farewell tour. I'm sure his fans will appreciate that but out-of-site-out-of-mind for the rest of us. Come May, it'l hit the news again with a reminder he's gone for good.

That's the opposite of what I said but I can see how you got that, it was sloppy writing on my part.

I just said he's there until May.

After that he doesn't evaporate, he'll have plenty of other job offers lined up and even if that somehow fails, anybody with his level of fame can platform themselves on YouTube.

Colbert had a staff well over 100 people. And he’s crying about being rightfully canceled? He did it to himself. And the people that worked there. But he’ll be fine.

Exactly!  Blame him, blame Kimmel for telling 1/2 of the viewing audience to go f off because they don't agree with their political opinions.  Great thing to do for all your employees and people who do not make millions a year.  Yeah, they don't matter at all as long as you virtue signal and flip the bird to people.

Nice attitude.

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/was-canceling-stephen-colberts-late-show-really-about-money-the-numbers-dont-entirely-back-it-up-4b100500

Was canceling Stephen Colbert’s ‘Late Show’ really about money? The numbers don’t entirely back it up.

Paramount says its decision to cancel “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” despite it being the No. 1 late-night television program was “purely a financial decision.”

But there is little in Paramount Global Inc.’s recent earnings report to indicate that the finances of its television division had eroded so precipitously that jettisoning one of its trademark programs would be a necessary solution.

Executives even highlighted the show’s performance as the No. 1 late-night broadcast show.

Overall, advertising revenue for the television division declined 21% in the first quarter compared with the same period the year before, but the company said that was entirely due to the fact that CBS had broadcast the Super Bowl in 2024 but not in 2025. Excluding that loss, advertising revenue was flat year over year.

That’s not to say things have been rosy for CBS or any other television company. Paramount has seen advertising revenue at its television division decline 20% since the first quarter of 2022.

Late-night shows have felt the decline acutely. In 2018, late-night shows on the major networks recorded $439 million in ad revenue, according to advertising-data company Guideline. Last year, that declined to $220 million.

“This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount,” the company said in a statement issued after Colbert announced his departure, planned for next May, to his studio audience on Thursday.

The decision came as Paramount is trying to finalize its sale to David Ellison’s Skydance Media, a deal that has been held up pending approval by the Federal Communications Commission.

Colbert’s contract was reportedly due to expire at the end of next year.

If Colbert uses these last 10 months to go on a Trump rampage, which it seems he might, he will get cut earlier and his 200 employees will be looking for jobs sooner.    Think he gives a crap?  Nope.

I dunno, I don't think he'll go scorched earth but the gloves will be off and who knows, it may generate more interest in the show.

His contract is guaranteed and CBS would have to come up with some replacement for that time slot, so unless they have already figured out the next step they will probably not be in any rush to pull the plug.

the current plan is to fill the vacated time slot with reruns of “Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen”
