Round Eleven-Sixteen Commentary - July Mock 2025

Dak is one of the guys I’m looking to pair with Fields in a lot of drafts. I felt I could get a number of other players I’m interested in in round 12 so I wanted to secure Dak now as a high end QB2

Homerism aside, I think that's a really good pick.  I think Dak will look a lot more like 2023 Dak than 2024 Dak this year and will finish as a QB1.  I'd have taken him with my pick, but the RB's I like were thinning and I didn't think there would be anything left for me if I waited.

Good pick!

I had QB typed out for my pick right before and was going to take him, but went with D/ST at the last second

It's SLIM PICKEN'S out there at RB.

Stevenson was also on my list, I'll take a risk on Sampson. Cleveland's another RB situation that's very much up in the air. Especially in PPR, I think he's a nice gamble.

It has been since the 3rd round.  I did not expect them to go so quickly.

Agreed.  It’s a situation to be watched over the next month leading up to the drafts that matter.  So is the Browns QB situation.  My gut keeps telling me Sanders wins the job outright by mid season, with a crazy carousel to start the year.  Not that I would want any of them on my roster.

I likely would've taken Ray Davis in Round 12, but since nobody (picking right after me) had him atop his list, so I went ahead and grabbed McCarthy as my QB2.

You should have taken Davis, as McCarthy was at the top of my list.  😡

I almost pulled the trigger on Dak in the 11th, but after seeing the Mixon news I said "what the hell" and took Chubb.  I'm OK with Stroud as my #2, he's pretty steady and they added Kirk and Higgins at WR which will hopefully increase his ceiling.

I was very tempted to grab McCarthy, but after overdrafting him in the June Mock, I thought I'd gamble and see if he would fall. Looks like the 11th is where I have to pull the trigger if I want him.

i came very close to taking a stab on Pitts in round 12. Im not totally sure why I didn't since I can probably find a WR5 if Tillman went... and Tillman could also be a huge bust but I think he has some upside as the WR2 (and possibly can surpass Jeudy). A lot will depend on the QB play.

At the beginning of the 11th, I knew I had to go RB or there would be a wasteland when it got back to me.  I debated White and Ekeler (although if I would have had the news about Mixon I would have definitely gone with Chubb...nice grab worm).  White had a fantastic rookie season which shows, given the chance, he can do the job if something were to happen to Bucky.  Even though he lost the job to Irving last year, he still posted 51 catches and had over 1,000 yards which is serviceable as my fourth RB.

I, clearly, miscalculated the back up QB drafting this year (although I swear to you that three - six back up QB's generally come off the board in the tenth round).  To do it again, I would have passed on Purdy and taken Dak in the 11th or 12th.  In any case, I'm happy with Herbert as my #2.  His numbers have come down since his first few years in the league, but he's been hovering around a low end QB1/high end QB2 the last few years.  Investing in Tre Harris with their first pick should give Herbert more options and, hopefully, improve his numbers a bit.

Speaking of Tre Harris, with the retirement of Mike Williams he'll start in three WR sets.  He won't overtake McConkey, but he has a real shot at stepping into the WR2 role.  At this stage in the draft, I'm looking for upside and I think Harris has it.

I should've gave you a other name!

Backup TE time. Smith always had talent, but he never was able to put it together. Was last year the turning point, or just everyone else sucking and getting hurt? Maybe a little of both.

But there's not a lot of TEs left with any upside. I'll gamble on Smith.

I glanced at him when picking Ertz (admittedly I did want Kincaid) and my thing with Smith is that Friermuth is still there right? and Rodgers has historically not utilized tight ends that much.

Those are issues, and probably why he fell. I'm expecting a decent amount of 2 TE packages. And there's not a lot of talents at WR beyond DK, so maybe Rodgers will be forced to look at his TEs more.

Is it really fair to say Rodgers doesn't utilize his TE's?  In his rookie year, he had Driver, Jennings, and Jordy... why would he even need to throw to a TE?  In his second season where Jordy was hurt a lot, Jermichael Finley was 3rd on the team in targets in only 13 games played.  In terms of fpg, he finished 10th among TE's.  The following year, he was hurt, but was 5th in fpg among TE's in the 5 games he played.  In 2011, Finely was 3rd on the team in targets with 92 (Jordy had 96), and finished the season as TE8.  Same with 2012, Finley was 3rd in targets (87).  I think the bigger issue is that GB had a major lack of talent at the TE position after Finley.  It wasn't until 2018 where they got a TE who was at least adequate, but that was 32 year old Jimmy Graham.  Last year, Conklin got 72 targets in 16 games... and he's not even that good.

The Steelers don't have a viable #2 WR option, so I can see Jonnu getting a good amount of targets, with Freiermuth getting some.  I don't think he's as good of a pass catcher as Jonnu.

Good points. I simply go off memory a lot and don't google stuff. My memory tells me Rodgers prefers veterans, guys he has played with, and didn't historically use his TE's much. I suppose the TE part is maybe unfair. I do recall Finley having decent games and seasons.  As far as the issue being lack of talent at the TE position, I am not sure Jonnu satisfies that. Obviously if a QB has Brock Bowers, he's going to utilize him.  I also used to sometimes figure it was GB game plan, more so than Rodgers but as the years went on Rodgers was doing what he wanted anyway.

Without the great option at WR2, I can see Jonnu getting more targets than one would initially think. So maybe there is some dark horse potential there.

I think it'll come down to what will the Steelers game plan be.  If they're going to run a lot (not sure how), then I can certainly see a scenario where Metcalf has 170+ targets and the next highest guy be a RB from dumpoffs, then a bunch of guys in the 30 to 50 range.  If they plan on throwing the ball about 32 times per game (550 on the season), I can see Metcalf with about 150 targets and Jonnu with 90... Freiermuth with 60(?).  That might be a round about way of saying that I think DK Metcalf could be a top 3 to 7 WR.  😂

to google!  Adams had 169 twice with Rodgers when he played 15+ games and 114 with the Jets in 11 games... Jordy had 150+ in 2014 and 2016.  I think Rodgers has a tendency to force feed "his guy". That said, I also think he and Metcalf may have friction as Metcalf is not the most crisp of route runners to say the least.

I will certainly be interested to see how that offense looks. Perhaps Jaylen Warren is being slept on just a little in PPR formats.

I never really paid attention to Metcalf's route running, but if that's an issue... then the Steelers could certainly be a dumpster fire if those two can't connect.

The word from inside Gillette Stadium is that Demario Douglas (who quietly had 66 catches on a HORRIBLE PATRIOTS OFFENSE last year) is the pats WR lighting things up at camp. He will be the starting slot receiver and should compete with Diggs for the most catches and yardage this season.

Tua's about the only QB with any upside left. He focked me last year. Maybe he stays healthy this year?

If he disappoints, I still should be fine with Allen as my number 1. If he returns to 2023 form, he's a great best ball addition.

Did we run an MFL best ball with our results last year?  If so may I have a link?

And - is someone going to do that again this year?
