I don’t excuse ANY crime, especially violent crime. Anyone who commits a violent crime must be punished and is ultimately responsible for that crime. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t look at the underlying factors and try to change them in order to make it less likely. This what some conservatives never seem to understand.

Underlying causes?  I'm tired of excusing 53% of violent crime being committed by 7%(blacks) of our population due to underlying causes.  racism?  maybe 50 years ago, maybe.  How about mommy doesn't have 4 kids out of wedlock, while daddy skips town?   how about daddy being a real father?  want to explain how that is whitey's fault or institutional racism?  yea right.

They were never illegal to begin with. They committed a crime, a small one, by coming here without papers. So they need to suffer a small punishment and be done with it.
