Homeless people should not be allowed to set up camp in parks and on the street. It is a complex issue removing people. It doesn’t really solve the homeless problem it simply is shuffling these people around. In my immediate neighborhood they allowed people to set up tents and structures in public parks during pandemic, or simply looked the other way. These areas were cleaned out years ago. The people were still homeless, they just went somewhere else and they pop up again every so often in these same spots until they are removed again. I personally don’t have an issue with this but it isn’t solving anything - it’s picking and choosing which areas have to deal with it.
Hardcore troubadour 15,560 Posted August 17 Washington DC has been a complete shitthole since as far back as Marion Barry. It’s a disgrace. If there’s the democrats, pushing away the hand that’s trying to help. It’s as if Trump sets these traps.

thegeneral 3,314 Posted August 17 I haven’t been to DC since 2019. Used to get to go there once or twice a year. A great city. Awesome food, the National Mall is a must walk. Smithsonian museums. Never went to the shitty parts as a visitor so not really sure where they are or if somehow the place sucks so bad now.

You're fine if you stay where your supposed to stay. I go there a few times a year only because my Father and some buddies are buried in Arlington. In the past few years the latest mayor has worked hard to address this both with programs and expanding housing as well as policies to remove encampments or parked RV’s (I think he’s done a good job and hope he gets re-elected) It’s never enough though and a number of these people just bounce around. While it’s ultimately in my judgement a net positive to not have people, many of them addicts or crazy, to be camping out in public areas it’s not really solving any problem it’s just shuffling the deck and redealing. What I was telling Strike is I saw this first hand in a huge neighborhood park near my house and some of the smaller green spaces. Again in my eyes you got to bounce people who try to set up a tent. I think most people agree with this even in a very liberal city,

Nomad99 771 Posted August 19 This is just another example of Liberal hypocrisy. In 2023 DC Mayor Muriel Bowser went before the house oversight committee to discuss crime in the district, her initiatives to reduce it and ASKED THAT CONGRESS GIVE THE MAYER CONTROL OF THE DC NATIONAL GUARD.......IN THE CONTEXT OF USING IT TO CONTROL CRIME. Where was the outrage? What a bunch of cucks.

Maximum Overkill 2,136 Posted Thursday at 01:27 PM Bike-riding youths terrorize Dem-run city as mobs swarm roads, while mayor stays silent on chaos Boston motorists captured the moment over 100 bikers filled a local highway, stopping traffic and wreaking havoc on the roads. The incident was initially reported just after 2 p.m. on Saturday, after Massachusetts State Police received a call regarding a group of people on bicycles, electric scooters and dirt bikes in the O’Neill Tunnel, according to WCVB. "Here comes [one to two] bikes, then 20 bicycles and we realize there is a whole wagon train of them down the road," Michael Filandro, who was driving on the interstate, told the outlet. "I thought it was a little parade or something going on. There was no escort, no police there. They were blowing through traffic lights, zipping around cars."
