$12.5 NIL given to freshman QB at Michigan.

Recommended Posts

Was committed to LSU then was offered the NIL from billionaire Larry Ellison who is supporting Michigan.

Well, it's legal. I see both sides of the coin, but it just doesn't feel right in the landscape of college football/sports. Kind of takes some interest out of it for me. :dunno:

The NCAA and universities make billions off these kids talents.  Of course, they should get a piece of the pie too.

Sad thing is that they somehow found a way to not take it out of NCAA and university profit.  They just added donors to the equation to insert more money.

Ok. But how many college sports programs, out of all universities in the nation are making billions? I'm simply talking as a fan. It just doesn't wash well with my college sports fandom is all. It's closer to MLB than NFL in how it works in college.

Would you like to see no salary cap in football? Anyway, I see both sides. Great for the top players, not as great for fans overall is my take.

I'm talking billions collectively.  The power 5 conferences all have tv contracts making them 50-70 mil per school annually or something like that.

NFL is different.  The players get paid based on a negotiated revenue share which established the salary cap.  In college, the stars are probably underpaid in terms of percentage of revenue they generate for their school.  For example, this QB is getting 14.5M not even coming from revenue.  maybe the whole michigan team is getting what? $70M.  The program between ticket sales, tv contracts, merchandise, etc, probably pulling in $200M.  So the players should probably be making $100M total if we're comparing to NFL.

And I get the whole fan distaste.  But that's the evilness of the NCAA and university hitting you.  They'd have you believe that the players should play for the love of the game and education while they take in massive amounts of money.  Pure sociopathic BS because they sure as shìt ain't fielding these teams and charging reasonable amounts all for the betterment of the student athletes.

NIL is stupid and it’s going to ruin college ball.

Probably already done so. The product sucks.

How bad is Michigan recruiting that he played and won multiple high school championship playing in Michigan but had originally committed to LSU.

Sounds like this is a money talks as the bottom line kid. I assume LSU easily offered the most $$ then Ellison opened his wallet

Watched the game since my wife is a UM grad.  Kid certainly looks like a physical beast.  We'll see how he develops as a passer and offense leader.

Somehow, the cupboards were left totally bare in Michigan at the most important position in all of football last year. There was a talentless void in the middle of the offense, only ever seen in the region once before: during the 90s when Scott Mitchell was busy destroying Barry Sanders' career. So a tag-team between personal recruiting trips by Tom Brady and the $bajillions$ that Larry Ellison's wife had access to, together hey went and backed up a bank truck in the driveway of the consensus #1 ranked QB in the nation last year and Michigan is now starting him as a true freshman.

And the kid looked pretty good. He has loads of talent around him and a full season to get ready for the next Ohio State beatdown.

It would never happen, but it would be interesting to see the guys who make millions in NIL just retire from football after their college playing days. I wonder how the NFL would react to that if it were to become a trend for the those players. What a complete meltdown there would be.

I would be surprised if many schools actually turn a profit from their athletic department.

Much as I hate Michigan and everything they are and represent.   And the fact that they are blatant cheaters an Harbaugh might be a bigger doosh than Brady...

Underwood looked pretty good last Saturday.   Oklahoma will be a good test this weekend, but so far, he looks like he might be legit.

Underwood did look good, but i dont think they asked a ton out of him. He needs to learn to avoids hits, making unnecessary blocks, etc. This weeks' game will shed a lot more light.

I am sure the michigan fans are working overtime on his Heisman slogan. (May The Forcier Be With You) has already been used up.

Also, right there with you on how big a piece of shiot Harbaugh is. But he learned from one of the all-timers in the POS department , Bo Scumbechler.

It's been well over a decade, probably closer to 2, that I've actually watched college football.  That being said, the last I remember of Big 12 schools is that their defenses always sucked.  Is that not the case anymore?  I wouldn't expect Oklahoma to be any kind of text for an opposing offensive player.
