Do we make sure to vaccinate all the children who came across the border illegally, or do we not worry about them?

I've been told that illegal border crossings have been completely halted. So no worries!

Is @Voltaire a skyscreamer?

For the most part no, his stance on the subject is understandable and other than the bit about having an obligation to protect kids that can't get vacinations his stance is valid.

It's simple, FL is putting the decision back where it belongs, with the parents, not the State.

Parents will either make the decision to vacinate, and most will, or not.  If a parent has concerns about exposure to unvacinated kids they can choose to go to a privtate school that does mandate them, they can home school or they can move to another state.

How many of the skyscreamers in this thread actually live in FL.

I'm guessing zero

So we can't care about children in Florida because we don't live there? 😦

So those that crossed the last 4 years and are unvacinated aren't a risk, go it

You're not worried about them, you just like to complain, I'm sure the state the you reside in has a multitude of issues that put kids at risk, try starting there and not worrying about whats going on in a state you dont live in

On the surface, I agree with you. Unfortunately, where public health is concerned, individual choices are sometimes superseded by the need to protect the populace as a whole.

Do you have the same attitude re: transgender youth? They pose no risk to the public.

Is it okay with you that FL residents that do support having their kids vaccinated will be forced to make those choices? What if they aren't able to move, afford a private school, or home school?

Of course they are! But if they're going to public schools, they'll be required to get vaccinated. If not, they'll potentially remain unvaxxed, thereby increasing the need to vax our own kids to build the herd immunity.

You don't know much about the school system here in FL, the cost is relatively the same pubic or private because of credits issued by the state.

If a parent wants allow thier child to be trans that is no business of mine, I don't agree with it but that's not what you asked

There's a whole lot of whatabouts in your posts, is there going to be a few instances where the parent has limited choices, sure, that doesn't mean the parents shouldn't be the one making the choice to vacinate.

agree to disagree, we are way pst the need for herd immunity for most of what the mandated vacinations are for.

For how long? If vaccinations per capita decrease, the herd immunity will eventually go away and we'll be right back to measles (for example) potentially killing kids.

You're right, I know little about FL's education credits. But I do work in healthcare and public health is something I care about strongly. The view I had of covid was far different than those not working in healthcare. I don't ever want to go through anything remotely close to that again.

Again, agree to disagree on herd immunity

Your prerogative. Accepted medical science disagrees with your stance.

I know I haven't been around much but, when did you abandon comrade Xi Jinping?

Also welcome home.  Was there a thread about this?

So, the Chinese government cracked down on the entire private school sector, effectively destroying everything my wife and I built as well as every place I'd worked along the way, except the kindergartens. We moved back to the US in December of 2021 to Michigan where my sister generously allowed the five of us to stay with her for a year. I got a job teaching middle school math in the Florida panhandle in December of 2022 and so we've been here going on two years.

Yeah, there's a thread but I'd have to look for it.

The two oldest kids are a senior and junior in high school, The elder is in the Florida National Guard and her brother will join her when he turns 17 in January. All three are top students, US schools are significantly easier than their Chinese counterparts. The upside of coming back to the US is it allows them to appreciate the country more but it was a hard landing.

Florida has excellent school choice, which means that private schools here are fully subsidized. Parents can choose whichever school they want.
