U.S. employers have announced more than 892,000 job cuts so far in 2025, a figure that has already surpassed the 2024 total and is the highest since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. This trend is driven by factors including government cost-cutting, broader economic strain, and the increasing integration of artificial intelligence (AI). The technology, finance, and pharmaceutical sectors are particularly affected, while the overall labor market shows signs of stalling and increased uncertainty.
Key Details

  • Total Cuts:Over 892,000 job cuts have been announced year-to-date (through August 2025).
  • Comparison to Prior Year:This is a 66% increase from the same period in 2024.
  • Comparison to 2024:The 2025 total has already exceeded the 761,000 cuts for all of 2024.
  • Historical Context:The last time job cuts were this high was during the pandemic-induced economic slowdowns of 2020.

Things are looking up!!!

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-job-growth-through-march-expected-be-revised-down-sharply-2025-09-09/

WASHINGTON, Sept 9 (Reuters) - The level of U.S. employment for the 12 months through March could be slashed by as many as one million jobs when the government publishes its preliminary nonfarm payrolls benchmark estimate on Tuesday, economists predicted.

Once again, AI is coming for everyone's job. I'm going to keep saying it.

Does this count government jobs and deported people?

If yes, that was pretty much the promise.

Many of them will be the revisions down from Biden. He really kicked in the bullshit last year.

Poor princess rusty. I guess this explains why you've been out of work since the 1980s.

How do we strengthen the economy?

1. Free trade.
2. Open immigration.

Exactly the opposite of what we’re doing.

These two things have absolutely nothing to do with why my work specifically is laying off people.

Why do you think they’re laying off people?

There were a lot of bad hombres  removed from the workforce and AI is starting to  do a number. If CEOs can save even a small amount over labor they will unfortunately cut the worker. This will be a bloodbath in a couple of years

Maybe not but they are the solution to improving the overall economy.

Cutting back workforce in general. Getting rid of all remote workers; either having them return to the office or be laid off.  You're given 5 locations that you can move or commute to, sometimes with a relocation package, sometimes not.

Hiring in other countries (outsourcing); my company has a goal of having 60% of our team members be in India. So, they are laying off USA workers and hiring in other countries, they aren't hiring immigrants here.

Also a lot of AI and machine learning.

You've expressed little in the way of happiness regarding this employment over this years. Have you thought about finding employment elsewhere?

Actually rusty those were jobs under Biden

Those numbers include January, February and March of this year.

It's all Trump's fault.

I was told by either Rusty Syringes or Pimpadeux a few years ago that the first year of a president’s economy is just an extension of his predecessor.  We’re not doing that anymore?

Dang, that's a long time.

The longest I've ever been with a company is this one for 11 years, and I prolly won't ever retire thanks to combination of luck and busting my ass to amass a book of bidness of more than 1,500 clients. Just the expiring term policies and moving around investment stuff with the clients I have will keep me busy for a decade.

Idiot wants to try and say the first Trump year is Biden's even though Trump quickly did a bunch of things through executive orders.

Not really.

I like what I do. No boss. No set hours. Unlimited vacation time. Work from anywhere. Make as much money as I want. Work 20-25 hours a week.

This almost feels like retirement. No reason to stop.
