Cooks left the Saints, joined the Rams, enjoyed the most tragically wrong call in NFL history just to go to the worst Super Bowl, & now fate has bit him in the ass.

Are they wrong though?  Doesn't the NFL say that if you're making a catch in the process of going to the ground, you have to maintain possession throughout the play?  Well, Cooks didn't do that.

The fact that it didn't go to replay is so far beyond - it had to be fixed..

It was an interception.  If the ball came out any other way it would've been ruled incomplete.  Why can't people comprehend this?

The NFL did the same thing to the Giants in the 2002 playoffs. Hey NFL, take your apology and shove it up your ass.

  You do realize the NFL has come out and said the call was incorrect?

Sure, they should've replayed it... I thought all changes of possession were automatically replayed.  I still don't think they change it.  Like I said, they've hammered in everyone's head, that if you're going to the ground in the process of making a catch, you need to maintain possession throughout.  Cooks didn't do that.  They even say that you need to "make a football move".  What move did he make?  He went to the ground.  There was no "football move".

It looks like to me he had possession when his knee hit the ground. The defender took it after that.

They would be wrong according to what they deem to be a catch.  If the ball came out and landed on the ground instead of it being in the defender's hands, they would have called it incomplete.

You’d make a great NFL referee. No understanding of the rules.

Best part is that it was a turnover, which is supposed to be automatically reviewed… and it wasn’t.

I watched the video, saw that made different rulings in other games, but exactly where did the NFL admit to being wrong?  :dunno:

The reason why we even have these "catch" rules was because Tampa got screwed in 1999 NFC Championship game.

I remember that. The only saving grace for Teams like the Bucs and Giants is they have won. I’m not gonna deny the Giants caught some breaks But it sucks worse for fans of the Bills that are still looking for one.

It was reviewed, but quickly.

Another disgraceful showing by NFL officials.

Reviews are done at their central command center in NY.

I said it should've been reviewed.

But, in the NFL rules, what I said in the post you quoted, is there.  It's letter "c":

"c) after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, clearly performs any act common to the game (e.g., extend the ball forward, take an additional step, tuck the ball away and turn upfield, or avoid or ward off an opponent), or he maintains control of the ball long enough to do so."

Cooks didn't do that.

I’d be ok with them doing away with instant replay.

I think if they're going to replay stuff, everything should be reviewable... even penalties.

I’d have a couple of eyes in the sky that can make calls. Quickly. Remember what the goal of IR was? If ten guys are sitting in a bar and they all see the bad call then correct it. Otherwise let’s move on with the game

I have yet to find where the NFL came out and said the call was incorrect.  Can you provide this?

As I said in the other thread after....doesnt have to be a catch.   But just go back and watch Worthy "catch" the ball vs the Bills last year.  Just google worthy catch vs bills.

You cant pay refs to look at slow mo replays and come to 2 different conclusions on those.  Its not a subjective call.

We need the league and refs to understand what they call a catch before fans and players.

That was a pick. I don't know why there's any controversy over this

Yep.  It was the football equivalent of Thunderdome - "Two man enter, one man leave" and Denver left with the ball.

The Adams catch had similarities.   Yet different calls.  Like I said doesnt have to be a catch.  But you cant just have different calls for the same plays.

I don't know which catch you're talking about, and am not going to go look for it, but couldn't the call on THAT play have been wrong and the call in the Broncos game been right?

What did you think of Adams in the Bears game.  Different in a way. Did he complete the catch?  And didnt they take time to review it?

Kind of similar but easy to distinguish.  Adams caught the ball before he went down and was down before the ball came out.  I'm a huge Bears fan and can admit that it was a catch.

I knew it was a catch as soon as I saw the replay.  No arguments.

Yes.  But if we are paying refs or some dork in NY to review plays in slow mo and come up with 2 different calls...

Then its not a fan or player problem not understanding the rules.  The league clearly doesnt know what a catch is.  Point is you cant have 2 different calls fotlr the same stuff, especially when you are focking looking at a review.

It felt like an interception. If they would’ve called that a catch, I would’ve felt like they might’ve been right by the letter of the law, but it certainly felt like an interception.

Cooks was down.  Many shots of a knee down.  Whats different?  Adams made a football move?  Thats a football move yet a guy can drop a ball after 2 steps and they call in incomplete not a fumble?
