The deceased may have been well advised to not carry his weapon with a round chambered.  That way accidental discharge simply will not happen. if it did happen, a matter on which I have no information and therefore no opinion.

The problem is, the top level people in the administration set this up for conflict. The rhetoric from the president before sending in agents was all but guaranteed to create ill will and conflict.

I’ve been reading stories of ICE getting quite a few criminals from other states, without incident. This is a self-own by DHS because they wanted a show. You can’t insult everybody in a town and then come in with a few thousands agents and expect to be welcomed. Add to that scooping up kids in broad daylight? 

The optics are bad. The tactics are bad. The agents are untrained for this kind of work. It’s a failure from top to bottom and they need to shutter ICE until a full investigation can be carried out.

Kristi Noem’s press conference was embarrassing. It’s not going to play well with the base. But it was no less embarrassing that what we’ve been hearing from Gov Waltz and the Mayor. All that said, ICE has an important and dangerous job to do. They are either going to do it without local support and more people will probably be hurt or with them and maybe people let them do their job.

At this point they can no longer do their job safely and effectively. I’m sure there are plenty of good agents who are f-ed over by the administration literally turning this into a show with professional camera crews and a soundtrack.

For years, immigration officers have done their jobs effectively and efficiently. Mostly out of sight for Americans. I don’t agree with all the policies on immigration in this country, and I know there are always some bad apples. But at least if the operations had kept closer to the status quo, we wouldn’t have ICE killing American citizens in the streets.

GOP voters better not act surprised if the result of all this is an amnesty in a couple years along with far more permissive immigration laws. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

I hope this is the outcome. We need to promote legal immigration for a whole bunch or reasons.  We have to know who’s here and get the bad guys out first. Its a shame Biden didn’t work on immigration reform instead of just opening the border.

Which means he was actively impeding/obstructing federal officers, a felony under 18 USC 111

Also a crime to conspire to obstruct/impede federal officers; Pretti was working with at least one other individual at the time.

And he was committing that felony while in possession of a firearm. Pretti also by his actions was attempting to aid a criminal illegal evade law enforcement.

He then assaulted a woman after being hit by pepper spray—presumably disoriented from the spray. And he had a loaded gun in his waistband.

His parents had cautioned him not to get aggressively involved in anti ICE protests.

But this was not a protest—it was a crime.

I feel bad he tragically lost his life and feel for the Feds who had to use their weapons but he put himself in that position.

They were clearly standing in the street, blowing whistles, and blocking traffic. That’s obstruction.  He didn’t deserve to die. It’s unfortunate.
