That is false, he never cut a deal, the prosecutor simply acknowledged that there was no evidence to suggest he was guilty, and refused to prosecute, so he did what any prosecutor does, sought out one to testify against the ones they knew did it. The prosecutors already knew that two people present with Lewis that night bought the knives used, and had Lewis testify to that fact.

My totally unfounded guess: At some point Aaron Hernandez decided that it would be easier, and profitable, to not just smoke tons of weed, but to sell it.
