Fumbleweed 426 Posted July 25, 2014 Golf's final major of the year with arguably its deepest field as well. After predicting the Masters pretty well, my prognostications have hit the skids so far this summer. As it should be. Golf is a hard game to predict and if you do it well, it just means you're lucky. Anyway, for what it's worth, here are my picks for the PGA at Valhalla in less than two weeks (subject to subtle changes): Top Ten: 1. Sergio Garcia- Fifteen years after nearly winning at Medinah, I think Sergio's time has come. He's played very well now for two years and he's my best bet for Valhalla. 2. Jimmy Walker- Great season for Walker and surprisingly good results in all the majors so far. I think he's got a real shot at winning and a great shot at top-five if he doesn't, so I'll put him here. 3. Rory McIlroy- Rory is a streaky player, but when he gets on a roll, he usually stays on a roll for a while. As such, he should contend. 4. J.B. Holmes- Played well at Valhalla in 2008 at the Ryder Cup and this is like a home game for him. Expect another good showing. 5. Adam Scott- Same old story. Top 5-10s in majors for Scott this decade is the surest bet in golf. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if the world's #1 player won this thing outright. 6. Jim Furyk- This guy seems to have mastered the art of knowing how to pace himself such that he's playing his best during the summer. Played well in England...playing well in Montreal at present...will likely play well at Firestone as well. 7. Kevin Na- Na has quietly had the best year of his career and I like his chances to be near the top of the leaderboard here, particularly in rounds 1-3. I think he'll get overtaken come Sunday, but the high finish will remain. 8. Rickie Fowler- Three majors. Three top fives. No reason to over-think this. Rickie is on a roll. 9. Justin Rose- Rose got the unfortunate side of the draw at the Open Championship, but make no mistake about it: He's playing very well. 10. Hideki Matsuyama- Coming into his own. There are plenty of other contenders obviously. Should be an awesome tournament!

Cruzer 1,992 Posted July 25, 2014 shouldn't even be a major. Should swap it with the players Not sure I agree with you there, but for sure this major lacks pizzazz. I have a hard time getting too excited about it.
patweisers44 697 Posted August 1, 2014 No need to worry about slotting Dustin Johnso into this. Apparenly, being the son in law of the third greatest hockey player of all time and SO of a smoking hot rich chick is not conducive to keeping your nose clean long-term. Allegedly. Cruzer 1,992 Posted August 1, 2014 These guys are treated like Gods. Money, ass, everything - is given to these players, especially ones like him. I'm actually surprised it doesn't happen more often. But good for him for getting help and stepping away for a bit. Wish him well.

cbfalcon 824 Posted August 1, 2014 No surprise that she got him into drugs and focking up his life. stupid ho In fairness to hockey ass, Dustin Johnson has been into drugs for many many years from what I've always heard. Obviously that girl is poison (yes, that was intentional), but in this instance I don't know that he didn't go as hard as her even before they met.
The Moz 69 Posted August 1, 2014 shouldn't even be a major. Should swap it with the players I agree but have always thought the Players as the "5th" Major anyway. The Players is the biggest payout and best field of any tournament - They should make the Players a Major and Make the PGA like the Players is now .............. a fringe Major

The Players is the biggest payout and best field of any tournament - They should make the Players a Major and Make the PGA like the Players is now .............. a fringe Major i'd have to disagree. i like the fact that the field is more wide open for the PGA. the select field for the players is perfect for what it is, one of the most sought after non major titles of the season along with the WGC events. what i would like to see change is the spacing of the majors. such a lull between masters and us open and then british and pga are bang bang. better spacing would be nice. cbfalcon 824 Posted August 3, 2014 Put $15 on Sergio this week to win $360. I wish it was anyone but Rory chasing him Yep. I see other guys play out of their minds, and I think "he could win a couple majors in the next few years."....but when Rory plays like this, I think "I'll be shocked if he doesn't have 10 majors by the time he turns 35". BufordT 371 Posted August 4, 2014 I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there is a >90% chance that this year's winner is one of these four favorites. Rose, Rory, Sergio, or Adam Scott. They're on top of their games right now and are a cut above the rest of the field.
Fumbleweed 426 Posted August 4, 2014 I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there is a >90% chance that this year's winner is one of these four favorites. Rose, Rory, Sergio, or Adam Scott. They're on top of their games right now and are a cut above the rest of the field. This is a great observation. All summer long, these 4 have been the best players in the world by a wide margin. That being said, the last time we had zero first-time major winners in a year was 2000 and before that, it was 1980. Years without any first-time major winners are very, very rare. Which is why I will stay with Garcia as my pick.
The Moz 69 Posted August 4, 2014 Tiger Woods will win at Valhalla. For a Major a pretty Meh course. Played it several times while I went to UK - has a cool Par 4 with like an Island Green but it's not really much. They really have to do it up to make it hard. Fumbleweed 426 Posted August 5, 2014 Moz, I hope you're kidding. Pretty sure Woods isn't playing and even if he did, he won't sniff contention. He's a long way from that right now.
