Updated: Breshad Perriman - No ACL tear

Recommended Posts

Ravens 2nd year WR Breshad Perriman has a partially torn ACL according to ESPN. He is to meet with doctors Monday to determine if season ending surgery will be needed.

This will shake up the Ravens depth chart if Perriman is out the season. After an injury filled rookie season this has to be a big blow. His dynasty value has to take a hit.

I think Mike Wallace is a nice lottery ticket. He had a down year is a system that was not suited to him at all, but he does compare well to Torrey Smith, who had nice (if inconsistent) numbers in Baltimore. With Flacco loving the deep ball, he's a candidate for a bounce back year.

I have about given up on Mike Wallace going back to his Pittsburgh days but he will be in a decent situation in Baltimore. Flacco has the arm and they tend to have success with WRs like Wallace. He still has life in him.

Good Call

Wow what a big plow to the Ravens .

I think Wallace can contribute on this team much better than he did with the Vikings .

It's also being reported that he had an MRI on saturday that revealed a torn meniscus as well. It's not looking good.

Can I NOW call him a bust without people yelling at me?

Or do I still need to give him more time.

As of now he is definitely a bust

I won't say the kid is a bust. My version of "bust" is someone who has been on the field and can't play the game at the NFL level. He simply can't get on the field. An injury bust? Definitely. From what I've read on various sites, the coaching staff wasn't overly high on him coming in to this season anyway, so he may not even make the roster next Summer.

I'm also pissed because a guy offered me a couple lower round rookie draft picks for him a week ago. Our draft was this weekend. I declined his offer, acting like I knew something about Perriman (thinking I could get more) and screwed myself. With Bryant suspended, I have a total of 3 WR's on my 22 man roster (12 teams). They are all pretty solid, but I have zero depth and another injury will ruin me this season. So.... Yeah, this one stung a bit. I was only counting on Perriman as a bye week fill-in guy, but now I have to replace him with a waiver wire pick in week one.

This is a tough one. I think there is a chance that the 2010 Mike Wallace that everyone is hoping for was just an outlier. He put up big number in 2010 but it was only on 60 catches at 21 yard per reception. Since then his ypr has trended down significantly. It was on the way down in 2011 & 2012 with Pitt at 16.6 and 13.1. I think Pitt management saw the trend and that is why they let him walk. I think other clubs might have figured out how to stop him.

Then he goes on to two situations where it was always the QBs fault for not being on the same page with him. The hope is that he will get the targets next year because Baltimore lacks options but I don't know that he learn the playbook and run the right routes to get open.

I wouldn't expect 2010 numbers, but 2012-2014 he was a low end WR2/high end WR3 (non-PPR). I think it's plausible he bounces back to that level.

I think he is a best ball flyer. There will be 3 weeks where he breaks free for a long catch and a big game. Will you have him in the lineup those weeks? The rest of the time he is a unreliable team killer as he puts up 4-6 points.

A team needs to be pretty stacked for Wallace to make a good contribution.

No reason he can't improve on his last year in MIA numbers. Ignore last year with that horrible QB

He will need to step up .

You have Perriman out and from what I just read S Smith is saying he is not sure when he will be ready to return .

So if anything Wallace is going to get playing time which than of course equals targets .

Kamar Aiken?

Maybe. Someone has to step up. It seems like the Ravens have a million receivers but I really don't know much about them besides Wallace, Smith, and Aiken

Kamar Aiken?

I think more likely a WR3/insurance for Steve Smith. Perriman was drafted to replace Torrey Smith. With his health in doubt, Wallace fills the role of deep threat.

Kamar Aiken?

He had a solid season last season , and a lot of it was with out Flacco .

Good call.

I don't know......... Baltimore is a good organization so maybe they duct tape the whole thing together but right now this just feels like a stay away from the whole team situation. Flacco is out for most of the off-season, at least, if not more.

Perriman down, Steve Smith very questionable, murky at WR, lots of TEs but still murky as to roles there, murky at RB.

Right now, nothing to see here, move along........... can't even justify drafting one of my fav Ks in Tucker at this point.

Idk Les, I tend to like such situations for kickers because it means they'll be the ones scoring the most points. Especially with Tucker's leg, in bonus for longer kick leagues...

Just traded 3.04/4.04 in this year's rookie draft for Perriman and a 17 fourth.

You Perriman guys are quit a stubborn bunch.

Good luck Ralph, hope buying low works out for you.

Vikes are rumored to possibly be cutting Charles Johnson. He's got good size with 4.37 speed and can play. The kid just got caught in a numbers game on a running team that has a second year weak armed QB. Hell, I'd take him in Oakland to back up Coop and Crabs.

I agree Charles still has a shot at being a productive player. Last preseason there was so much buzz about him and Minny was not a place to showcase his stuff.

Well the news is better than expected. Apparently it's not as bad as they thought but he's having arthroscopic surgery tomorrow to know for sure.. He may just need a stem cell injection and it could heal on it's own. In that case it's possible he could return sometime during the season. That's the best case scenario.

Still not great because it looks like he will miss several games at least but it beats the hell out of reconstructive knee surgery.

I still don't think he has much fantasy value. I don't think he has enough potential, especially coming off a significant injury, to draft and keep in the bench for several weeks. He could have FA value though for a playoff run.

Not sure if you meant the Miami Dolphins or "Missing In Action". In the case of Wallace, i suspect and fear the latter.

Who gave you Decker and Reed for those two guys ?

I try to join leagues where every player is a stone cold killer shark, like all the leagues you guys are in, but invariably other owners turn out to be fallible. I guess im just looking in the wrong places. :dunno:

In the interest of honesty i did give up a 2016 third rounder also. He sent me the offer, i accepted pretty quickly.

I think there were a number of things in play

1) This was a couple of months ago before the draft when everything we heard about Periman was unicorns and rainbows was he was on track to be ready for training camp.

2). I can understand someone wanting to be out of the Jordan Reed business. He is always going to be one hit away from being retired.

3) I think people criminally underrate Eric Decker.

4) I think some dynasty owners take "getting younger" way too far

5a) I also think some dynasty owners are obsessed with "selling high" Decker and Reed were two perfect sell high candidates, the other guy just didnt extract a sell high price for them

5b) I think the concept of "selling high" is a sound one, its just that some people convince themselves that they *HAVE* to sell a player NOW while he is at the peak of his value. People get impatient and just take what they can get.

6a) Reed and Decker sat on his trading block for a couple of months. I think sometimes people think "Hey i'll put Jordan Reed on the trading block. He was the #2 TE last year. I'll be swimming in offers for him!!!" And i dont think that happens very often.

6b) I think some people use the trading block as a crutch...they dont have any idea how to value players, so they wait for someone else to set the price. When those offers dont come flooding in, they think "Heh Jordan Reed must be even less valuable than i thought. Now i REALLY have to get rid of him."

7) I think the guy is just obsessed with young WRs. Not that this a bad strategy, He also made deals in which he underpaid - especially the Watkins deal - for DeVante Parker and Sammy Watkins, and also traded CJ Anderson to me for Chris Conley and a third.

Well good news. The ACL tear isn't complete or bad enough to need surgery. He will get a stem cell injection and it should heal on it's own. He should be okay for the season. He's already off to a rocky start but he dodged a disaster here. Hopefully he puts the injuries behind him and stays healthy.

If I owned Perriman, I'd sell him for as much as I could get given this recent story.

I still don't believe he ever plays a down with those knees

Gee why would you say that about J Reed , he already as an ankle problem .
