While im not questioning how good the book is, or judging you for reading it, you have to know your audience. This board consists of a bunch of Neanderthal idiots. Me included. You would get much more action by starting a thread called 'Do you look at your poop?'.

I read it as soon as I saw the trailer for the movie. It captivated me so much for some reason and I rarely read books. Like 1 every 5 years. I actually listened to it on audio file and it was a most pleasant experience. Amazing book and story overall, highly reccomended and cant wait for the movie.

Haha. And while I truly believe that, I consider you to be one of the least barbaric guys here.

I haven't read a book since junior high. Shocking, I know. :music_guitarred:

I bought it for my kindle but haven't read it yet due to the fact that I'm still reading another book. I actually read quite a bit. Go through about 3-5 books a month

I hear ya and I didn't read IN high school. I started reading when I had a long(ish) commute. 13 years ago started working in Manhattan and have nothing else to do on the train so I started reading. I guesstimate I read 15-20 books a year.

If I read at home it's finishing a chapter I already started earlier while pooping.

See what I did there ??

Lol people see the name The Martian and think it's about Aliens. It's not. The premise is an astronaut who goes to Mars in a group, gets accidentally left behind and has to survive there in case of possible rescue. The meat of it is the inner workings of his survival and resourcefulness using what's available to him. It's mildly futuristic in the sense at there can be a Mars expedition but not sci fi to the point that we can just hyperspace there. It's a realistic interpretation of our possible space travel capabilities and limitations. It's riveting, interesting, thought provoking and just overall a great read.

Read the book last month and saw the movie today.

The book dives deeper into the survivor aspect of the story and gets pretty nerdy and technical along the way.

The movie was about 20 min too long IMO. It dragged in the middle a bit and there was sort of a post script wrap up that was completely unnecessary.

Both my sons (6&8) liked it and audibly cheered the Martian on several times. I wasn't sure they would like it but I'm glad we took them.

Both the book and the movie are worth checking out.

I did notice the movie was 2:21 - that's a lot of movie. I am looking forward to it.

Thanks to have responded.

A friend of mine read the book and just saw the movie. He said the movie was excellent and stayed true to the book. He told me I would enjoy the movie more than him because I did not read the book and would not know what was going to happen next.

Why is that? Not offended, just curious at the perception.

It's been documented on this bored several times over the decade and a half I've been here.

Didnt see those threads. Im taking my own practice of rarely ever reading books and projecting it onto you to justify being surprised.

Growing up I always hated to read. I would have much rather been outside than cooped up in the house reading. However when I did read I enjoyed it. Later on when I went to college I started finding books I liked and ended up becoming an avid reader.

Cause we're both badass weightlifting former military cops that worked undercover buying meth/guns from tweakers and gangbangers, kicking doors/ass and taking names and no sh!t from noone, especially grammar teachers!?

Or... boneheads that post as if we're to dumb to read?

In all fairness "kicking" a door is hard as fock if it's reinforcement at all. It's not like the movies. Thats what a ram is for. It's also pretty embarassing when your outside kicking... and kicking.. and kicking... haha.

Oh and I've taken mucho sh!t from multiple sources.. :( Nature of the beast with bosses. Also not like the movies.

My other favorite common occurence in movies is when guys crash through giant windows or glass doors cleanly. something tells me its alot more potentially gruesome and messy and slicey. Rather than just easily crashing through as the window breaks into a million equal little parts.
