stonewall 647 Posted August 15, 2015 I am a firm believer in waiting until the last rounds for K and D/ST, however they can make or break you, particularly in leagues with relatively high defensive scoring. Of course, teams like Seattle and Buffalo are are on top of most lists, with teams like Houston, Zona, and St. Louis also popular. But I am looking for that sleeper defense that is flying under the radar, and I would rather not stream defenses if possible to leave another slot open for a skill player. I heard a guy pitching the Dallas defense the other day as a viable sleeper. Hard to trust them, but if Shaun Lee can stay healthy and once Hardy gets back from suspension, I suppose they could make some noise. Any Defense you are eyeing? worm 34 Posted August 15, 2015 As far as matchups go, Miami has a pretty nice first half of the season, I'm looking to pick them up late.
Vikings4ever 496 Posted August 15, 2015 Last year's top 5 ADP: Seahawks (finished 10th) 9ers (finished 15th) Panthers (finished 13th) Rams (finished 4th) Broncos (finished 17th) Last year's top 5 year end: Eagles (drafted 19th) Texans (drafted 10th) Bills (drafted 15th) Rams (drafted 4th) Packers (drafted 16th) Get drunk. Throw some darts at a dartboard. That'll give you about the same chance as drafting a D early.

First few weeks there's is always some waiver D that puts together a few great weeks. Scoop them up when the matchup,is right and try to catch lightning in a bottle. We over analyze specific players and new additions but really it's coaching and scheme plus matchups that make defenses good.

NEWPOSTERGUY! 266 Posted August 15, 2015 - cost 5 balloons peR transaction in all my leagues .. streaming defenses cost me 115 beans last year across the three, and I can't say any one particular scoop 'won' me a week ... now, I cashed out in all three, but left that 115 on the table. no more lighting currency on fire. I target Dolphins in all three this year, and RONCO the mofos: SET IT AND FORGET IT. HTH -
weepaws 2,460 Posted August 15, 2015 I alway draft my defense second to last and that will not change . I play the match up game with that position all season some times I win sometimes I don't but I like do it so that won't change . Not going to chase any def . Oh ... ok, then no one else in your leagues can smell a good matchup? so, you're the ONLY person who can pounce? NICE. see, i play in leagues where juicy ww defenses either need to be bid on, or are granted via precious waiver priority but, yeah ... happy that you can maneuver with total impunity, and are the only person playing the streaming game. go get 'em, tiger

Beyond Chaos 75 Posted August 16, 2015 I also play the matchups weekly. Defenses/Special Teams play is hard to predict. I usually go with the best defense against the worst team available on the waiver wire. I usually eye defenses playing against rookie QBs that look to be a bust or a team who's starting QB is injured that week and the backup is questionable. I found it to work more times than not. Vikings4ever 496 Posted August 16, 2015 Vikings D looked pretty good to me!! With Diggs & Patterson returning, they are a decent sleeper target. But be warned, Zimmer's defenses have never been takeaway machines. Only 3 times in 15 years have his defenses been top 10, and only once in the top 5. Vikings4ever 496 Posted August 16, 2015 Good tidbit. Nice I should clarify that the tidbit is NOT about fantasy scoring, but about turnover rankings. So sacks and points allowed may make up for a lack of turnovers, but I'm not sure.
Hawkeye21 1,853 Posted August 17, 2015 I pick up NE late in most drafts. They always seem to finish in top 10 it seems.
Rico Suave 1 Posted August 17, 2015 I am in a 14 team league and over the years D's usually start going off the board about midway through. In the early/mid 00's the Ravens and Bucs would sometimes go in the 4th round. The scoring for D's in our league can be high so I always try to target one each year that I think will be solid every week because I hate playing matchups and the waiver wire (at $5 a pop). I try to pick one that is not necessarily going as one of the top picks but who I think will end up in the top five so that I get good value for where I draft them. Last year I hit with picking the Bills in the next to last round. I honestly don't know who to target yet this season. Like others I think Miami will be good but I haven't really analyzed schedules yet. I also cop to being a cheapskate and all things being equal taking a D with one of the later bye weeks so that if I am out of it by that point I don't have to drop another $5. stonewall 647 Posted August 17, 2015 I know it is just the preseason, but the Miami D looked like a bunch of schlubs the other night.

Hawkeye21 1,853 Posted August 17, 2015 One strategy I heard was to just take the Colts D since they have an easy schedule to start the season. After the first few weeks just pick up whatever D is hot or has the best match up.
