Skunk beer: Drink it or toss it?

Recommended Posts

I just picked up a 6er of IPA in cans and grabbed a bottle from the singles case, a different IPA.

Get home, crack the single bottle and it tastes like piss, as if it has gone from cold to hot to cold to hot several times. It is usually a very decent beer (Stone IPA)

Part of me wanted to just pour it out, but the alcoholic in me said drink it, it is still a cold beer.

What do you guys do when you unexpectedly come across a skunk beer?

- Drink it like a man

- Pour it out

- Drive back to the store and complain to the manager

- Try to pass it off to a friend/spouse/dog

Thats probably the smart choice. Me? Id just dump it and go get more beer from a different place since it was only a 6er

Life is too short to drink bad beer. Ditch it.

I think you can use it as a home remedy for warding off mosquitoes?

What about ants ?

Nope. It was mosquitoes. Mouthwash, epsom salt and stale beer.

You can also cook with it I guess.

I thought your original post said ants and then edited

Throw it the back of the fridge for when you are desperate for a beer.

20 minutes later ?

If it tastes like that it moat likely isn't "skunked". More likely is it was contaminated by bacteria during the brewing process. It happens.

Home brewers learn that sanitation is everything....if you mess that part up it can destroy a whole batch of beer.

So....toss it. No telling what it got contaminated with

Got kids? Give it to them. Theyll think beer tastes bad, and if it is contaminated, theyll think it makes them really sick. Then they wont drink again for a while.

I love Stone IPA. If it's not much of a hassle, I would let them know. You bought it to drink it, so is not like he should think you are trying to screw him.

Or I would toss it. I'm not drinking swill just to catch a buzz

It did, which is why I put the question mark. I then looked up what I read yesterday and modified the post.

That was over the course of about 2 minutes. Stalk much?

I wouldnt drink it.

Ive read that beer going from warm to cold and back wont make it skunky. Exposure to light is usually what causes that problem.

Also. Just cause one is bad doesn't mean the whole 6 pack is

And djgb...it was the single beer idiots.

Toss it. If you were a poor college kid or something the answer may be different

It depends on how many I have. If supply is limited, you gotta be less picky.
