Amerrrcan Idol Season 8

There are going to be haters in here calling the show stupid and the people who watch it lame. But I know there are some fans here, people who appreciate good talent (and some hot beezies).

 

I always enjoyed doing the writeups for these things and I hope some of you guys enjoy reading it.

I've sung for about 10 years and played piano for 8, so I would like to think I know what I'm doing.

 

AI Ranking - Top 13

 

T-1. Danny Gokey - This guy has great tone in his voice. It's like controlled mayhem. He got that rocker tone, but has amazing control with it as well. PYT started a little slow, but he picked it up right away. Great performance.

 

T-1. Adam Lambert - He's got a very impressive voice. He can hit those high notes like no other. And that stage presence is just amazing. I WOULD put him as the obvious favorite, but lately, there's been pictures around the internet with him in drag kissing dudes. If those pictures start popping up more, then I don't think he'll keep the American Idol fans voting for him.

 

3. Lil Rounds - There's always one. The black woman with great voice, but doesn't quite connect with the crowd in the late rounds and lose barely before the top 5. Lil is going to be that woman this time. I really enjoy listening to her, she's got that Aretha Franklin feeling to her.

 

4. Allison Iraheta - Can't believe that voice is coming out of a 16 yr old girl. Amazing. Her voice is her originality factor, and that will carry her to the top 5 for sure.

 

5. Alexis Grace - Absolutely overdid that song tonight. Great voice, great performance...but overdid it. I don't think she can keep it up in my top 5 rank though.

 

6. Scott MacIntyre - Average voice, but the sympathy votes will comes in. And it is crazy how he is blind and he learned a song on the piano in a week and played it on national tv. Mad props to the guy.

 

7. Matt Giraud - Don't like this guy, hated him from that Coldplay performance. But this was a solid week for him, he looked very comfortable behind the piano.

 

8. Kris Allen - Another guy I don't really like. There is not one original bone in his body. He sings and plays piano like John Mayer and he sung the song like a karaoke version of it.

 

9. Michael Sarver - Really boring performance. But he didn't mess up, and theres no reason why he should be kicked off. But pick it up guy.

 

10. Megan Corkrey - What a sexy girl. Looked great tonight. And the way that she sings just brings a smile to my face. But the judges were right...it was a horrible song choice and it didn't show her vocals at all.

 

11. Jorge Nuñez - I really hope this lazy-eyed gay dude gets kicked off, but something tells me that the Puerto Rican fan base will all support him and keep him alive for another week. I hated his performance.

 

12. Jasmine Murray - Don't know why the judges were so hard on her. I thought she did alright. But I've been watching this show for too long, and I just get a feeling that she will be leaving us tonight.

 

13. Anoop Desai - Easy choice. Horrible performance. Hasn't shown me anything ever. Thought the Indian fanbase would be big for him, but after not making through the top 36 round, I'm thinking it is not.

I'd prefer to flop Jorge for Kris but otherwise I agree with pretty much everything you said. I love Megan's voice and look but she's got to stop moving. I find it painful to watch. And you didn't mention Alexis so I thought I would. She was solid but the first half of the song was better than the last.

She's definitely hot. She's kinda got a Heather Graham look about her.

 

BUT...

 

This show is pretty much unwatchable this season with the lack of talent and the 4 judge overkill. Also, the new format was dumb as hell.

Allison sucked this week...sorry, it was not good.

Adam, while he has a great voice, IMO, that was too over the top screaching last night and just was not enjoyable to listen to. Rounds also disappointed to me, but it was a weak night overall. Matt was better than Scott and and it was not even close. He has a much better voice and I would put him top 3 last night behind Gokey and Adam (eventhough I hated it, the guy can freaking sing)...with Alexis and probably Rounds finishing up the top 5.

He does not have the most powerful voice out there but is likable and sings on key...and there are no pictures of him in drag making out with other guys.

Thanks! I went back and edited my post. I had Allison listed twice. I meant to have Alexis tied for 6th, and not Allison again. I had Allison right up top. I agree on Alexis. When Megan is allowed to sing the right song for her, some of that quirky movement works. Kind of "Cocker like", pardon the poor pun."

I think too many people just dig a chick that rocks. While it was not Amanda Obermeyer bad...it was not good either and I think she is overrated based on her age.

I totally agree. I know some here have kind of hated on last night, but I really liked the show. Out of 13 people, there's always going to be a couple of them that either just don't deserve to be there or have a really, really bad night. But overall I thought they did an awesome job. Michael Jackson is an extremely tough artist for this type of situation due to his unique sound and overwhelming popularity, but 5 or 6 of them really sounded good.
