Dr Hook 6 Posted April 4, 2006 A few years ago I was in a survivor league and picked Portis in round 12. Everyone said WHO??? etc. I won the league because Portis finished strong. Just wondering what your best pick no-one knew was.

Stars 0 Posted April 5, 2006 There were gasps and jeers when I picked LJ in R5 last year. Which also means I can retain him at the end of the first this year. I suppose the gasps and jeers mean that I could have picked him lower - but frankly I'm happy I didn't take that risk...
bonkbonk 5 Posted April 5, 2006 Vinny and mike(al) Jackson (WR), my first year every playing, at the turn 9-10 they all laughed took 3rd........
Captian America 0 Posted April 5, 2006 I would say last year it would have been Fast Willie Parker considering he rushed for over 1,200 yards and had a 4.3 ypc while still missing almost 2 games. I'm sure he went late in most drafts unless you had a good Steeler fan in your league and knew that he was going to be a good sleeper. This would be my great pick my bad ones would have been Ahman Green, Jamal Lewis, Cory Dillon, Randy Moss, and Kevin Jones and Tatum Bell both who I thought would have been in the top 5. kristv 0 Posted April 5, 2006 It was T.O., right before his best year at San Fran. I think I picked him in the 4th or 5th round (re-draft league), and everyone was like, 'who?'. I had been reading all summer how San Fran was going to be playing from behind and would be chucking the ball a lot to catch up in games. Also, I knew that it was a weak division (defensively), so games would likely get into shoot-outs. He carried me all season, and I nearly won the final that year. He was down for a game or two with turf toe that season, and I think those were the only games I lost that year.
football_scooter 0 Posted April 5, 2006 back in 2003, i took Jamal Lewis to couple with Tomlinson at 2.11. I was laughed at, told he was always hurt, that I'd be lucky to get 4 TDs and 600 yds out of him. 2066 yards and my lone championship later no one laughed. How the hell did you get Tomlinson at 2.11 after his rookie year of 1236 and 10 TDs...and then followed up by 1683 and 14 in 02 (plus another 489 receiving yards on 79 catches and a touch)? Let Da Big Dog Eat 40 Posted April 5, 2006 These goes back a while but here goes: Steven Davis his breakout year in Wash. I got him in the 9th or 10th round. Another guy picked up Skip Hicks in about the third round. When I picked him, I announced "Since the BU RB is taken in Washington, I guess I'll take the starter, S Davis." The guy looked down at a mag and said, "Hicks is the starter, it says so right here!" I laughed all the way to a SB title. Took M Faulk when he went to St L. Guy who owned him the year before laughed at men (he did not have a very good prior year). He was also Da Commish. Ahh, another SB title. The Davis one was classic tho because of the Hicks owner's reaction.
TD Ryan2 316 Posted April 5, 2006 James Stewart (JAX). took him really late one year, Taylor got hurt (it was the start of a trend) and Stewart carried me to the promised land. Charlie Garner. I don't remember the exact year(s) but he was one of those guys I always drafted in the mid (4th? 5th?) rounds and payed off big time. also Marshall Faulk and Priest Holmes... luck of the draw/draft... I frequently ended up with them and it just wasn't fair to the rest of the league.
Zap 0 Posted April 5, 2006 (football_scooter @ Apr 5 2006, 09:09 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> back in 2003, i took Jamal Lewis to couple with Tomlinson at 2.11. You misunderstood him. He got LT2 with 1.02 and Jamal with 2.11. On a side note, scooter. You must have drafted early. We were pretty clued into Jamal around here that season. In Goid I took him on the first corner at 2.01 or 1.12. Nobody laughed and t.j., who drafted Ahman at 1.10, said he liked the pick. He wouldn't have fallen to 2.11 in that league, nor would he have generated any laughter. He was prime to go off that season, imo. I did reach a little, but it sure worked out nice. A lot better than reaching for Chris Brown last season!

Timinator 0 Posted April 5, 2006 I've had a lot of "laughable" picks pan out... Barry Foster, RB Pitt, finished 2nd or 3rd in the MVP voting. Drafted Steve Young when Montana was supposedly "coming back" and didn't. MVP numbers. Took rookie Emmitt Smith in Round Two or Three. Drafted soon-to-be-known Kurt Warner late. I was an Iowa Barstormers fan. Traded for LJ last preseason when Priest "was back at full strength." Over the years, people don't laugh as much as they wonder "WTF did I miss now that he didn't?!?" mggoilers 0 Posted April 5, 2006 Dom Davis when the Texans were an expansion team. They were an expansion team in 2002. Dom Davis won rookie of the year in 2003, the year I drafted him in the 18th round.

OrangeSoda 2 Posted April 5, 2006 I Drafted Terrell Davis in 1995 in the 10th Rnd, and the next year he scored 23 tds and had 1600 yrds. Of course I am a denver homer, but so was everyone else in the league. I also drafted scotty vines last year for $1 in my auction league, he came on late and finished with 700 yrds, not bad for a bye week filler. As i have explained before I have a knack for picking TE's I picked gates 3 years ago i got him for $3 in my auction league, the yr before I took LJ smith and the year before that Chad lewis, i think he had 77 rec that year. Last year I drafted Erron Kinney who lead all Tenn WRs. that one was a mistake, I missed out on Dallas clark and had to settle on a combo of Kinney and Zach hilton all year. This year I will take a fling on Wesley Duke TE Denver Broncos...
t.j 35 Posted April 5, 2006 There were gasps and jeers when I picked LJ in R5 last year. Which also means I can retain him at the end of the first this year. I suppose the gasps and jeers mean that I could have picked him lower - but frankly I'm happy I didn't take that risk... Whoever was gasping and jeering was clueless. I had the #1 pick and was considering teh Priest but I knew I'd have to get LJ too and he would probably be taken before I could get him with my 4th-round pick. So, I passed on teh Priest. Sure enough, LJ went in the fourth round to a non-Priest owner.
jdswan922 0 Posted April 5, 2006 In 2002 I got Donald Driver in an auction for $1. Nobody else had a clue. he ended up being a top 15 WR that year. He went for $25 in the same auction last year.

A lot better than reaching for Chris Brown last season! Actually I picked Stephen Davis at 1.10 Davis had a pretty good year so it wasn't a total loss. But I remember feeling like Green was the consensus choice and I just couldn't get over the feeling that he'd get hurt. And then of course Green went at 1.11, stayed healthy, and dominated. Just another year where I'd have done better if I'd drafted like I were drafting for someone else rather than going on hunches. I do remember liking the Lewis pick, I can't imagine him falling to 2.11 let alone someone laughing at that pick. A 4th-year running back who was the #5 pick in the NFL draft and was coming off a year with 1769 total yards and 7 total TDs? Please. I also remember from that draft I really really wanted 1.09/Edge instead of my 1.10 choice between Davis/Green/Lewis/etc. Edge did beat out Davis by a couple of TDs but it was Lewis and Green who had the career years... who knew? sanders 0 Posted April 5, 2006 I had Shawn Alexander and Ladainian Tomlinson in 2001. As a matter of fact check out this lineup for 2001. Deez_Nutz Favre, Brett QB A Deez_Nutz Allen, Terry RB RS Deez_Nutz Smith, Jimmy WR A Deez_Nutz Green, Ahman RB A Deez_Nutz Brown, Troy WR RS Deez_Nutz Glenn, Terry WR RS Deez_Nutz Booker, Marty WR RS Deez_Nutz Brooks, Aaron QB RS Deez_Nutz Holt, Torry WR RS Deez_Nutz Akers, David K A Deez_Nutz Mason, Derrick WR A Deez_Nutz Alexander, Shaun RB A Deez_Nutz Brookins, Jason RB RS Deez_Nutz Raiders DT A Deez_Nutz Buckhalter, Correll RB RS Deez_Nutz Minor, Travis RB RS Deez_Nutz Jordan, LaMont RB RS Deez_Nutz Thomas, Anthony RB A Deez_Nutz Tomlinson, LaDainian RB RS I finished 2nd LAST. I had the most points for in the league and missed playoffs. Every week pretty much I faced the top point getter who had some no names score big. Other guys were winning with 80 points and I'd lose with 120.

redtodd 7 Posted April 6, 2006 Years ago, I waited to take a QB and I took Jeff George in his 1st year with the Raiders. He was going to be my #1 QB and I think I waited till the 8th or 9th round to take him. He was a stud that year.
Enoch 1 Posted April 6, 2006 In a keep two I took LT over a few good RBs his rookie year. That was when a few people talking bennet up high. But to take him over some other good RBs was just a bad move many said. I had Lt as a keeper for years
