TO Not Participating in Voluntary Workouts

Recommended Posts

Way to get off on the right foot with Parcells TO...

Cowboys want more show from T.O.

By Clarence Hill Jr. ~ Star-Telegram Staff Writer

IRVING - Is controversial receiver Terrell Owens getting off on the right foot in Dallas? Several sources have noted that Owens has not been a regular participant in Cowboys coach Bill Parcells' off-season program... However, Parcells' feelings on the subject are clear. The "voluntary" program requires players to work out four times a week and get in 40 workouts during the off-season. "To [Parcells], it's about chemistry," a source said. "He wants you here."

All is going according to plan...muahahahahahahahaha ! Seriously, I can see problems developing between Parcells and Owens. Owens is NOT a team player, never has been never will be. He is a phenomenal talent but he comes with a lot of "issues". I do not see Parcells putting up with any shenanigans from Owens !

Team Chemistry 101

Dominate Dictator (Big Tuna) + Selfish player (owens)

caution: do not mix/hazardous to entire organization

result - - - - - KAAAABBBBOOOOOOMMMMMMMMM

I mean come on. Out of respect the guy should be there! Unacceptable

He typically works out on his own every year during the offseason. If it had anything to do with gaining chemistry with Bledsoe, I might be worried. This is just weight type of training we are talking about though. TO is one of the biggest workout freaks in the NFL. Not a big issue at all. Some reporter just probably asked Parcells about it and he stated his honest opinion that he'd like TO there. Now the media is going to make a big issue out of it but its really not.

Parcells in his honest opinion says that he'd like TO there - well if the coach asks you to jump, you say how high! No the media is not blowing this out of proportion - If coach wants you there at a freaking midnight film session, my guess is that it would be a good idea. Probably wouldn't be wise to tell coach parcells that I watch film on my own

And now for the middle of the article:

His initial absences were understood because of a prior commitment, but Owens in the past has preferred to work with his own trainer.

Owens, who signed a three-year, $25 million contract with the Cowboys in March, was present at a Thursday workout.

His publicist, Kim Etheredge, said, "He is here when he is required to be here just like every other player on the team" and added that Parcells has expressed no concern about Owens' regimen.

The Cowboys are not concerned about Owens' conditioning. He always has stayed in good shape and his training methods have served him well.

Its either voluntary or not.

Make it mandatory or dont complain when some dont show up. Not defending TO here, but why make it vague what you expect of your players?

Typical media BS, and I hate TO. It's obvious to anyone who's watched football that the guy is a freak physically. And lets not forget about his return from the broken ankle.

and so it begins.....

i would have just thought that a guy like TO, coming from a bad situation and a guy who was under alot of heat for being a bad teammate, professional, well pretty much bad everything, except talented football player, would want to make a good start to his new life and team and show up to this camp, voluntary or not. at least so he looks like a "team player" to start the new career

just goes to show what type of guy he really is. a leopard doesnt change his spots

I bet half of the replys on this subject are Eagle fans. The key word is voluntary. A lot of players don't do these work outs. So don't get too happy. TO will be a top 3 WR this year. Good thing he is on my team

I said the same things when he first came to Philly...things like, "he will be fine, you guys are wrong", "he'll show up in the game", etc etc.

Based on forum guidelines we are not supposed to post the entire article. The important part of the article IMO is that Parcells might be pissed at TO, not TO's canned responses to the situation.

And I am not an Eagles fan.

Believe me when I say, if Parcells was pissed, the Dallas area sports writers would know it, and we would know it. Its not at that level yet.

In the years that Parcells has been here, he hasn't gotten pissed at anyone that didn't attend non-mandatory workouts. Hence the name, non-mandatory.

Typical media hype here. ;)

Obviously not a Cowboy fan, bvut this is a non story. Many players skip a "voluntary" session. TO is probably in the best shape of any NFL player, so his conditioning is not an issue. It would have been a nice gesture on his part to show up early. It would have been a statement that says I learned my lesson and want to be a part of this team and go the extra mile. Sure, it would have been nice, but the naysayers would still be here saying that it wont last.

I think he's a time bomb as well, but wait until there is something of substance before calling out the I told you so chants.

This was reported on Thursday by Mickey Spagnola (columnist for the Cowboys)

IRVING, Texas - Two weeks from the NFL draft, and Easter right around the corner, let's have a little holiday smorgasbord, you know, a little this and that to get us into next week.

Never fear, T.O. is here. Ya'll seemed duly concerned after hearing the report Terrell Owens was not taking part in the Cowboys "voluntary" off-season workout program, which requires guys to get in 40 workouts under the jurisdiction of strength and conditioning coach Joe Juraszek to qualify for the workout stipend they can receive. Well, he may have been absent for a while, but can tell you he was here Thursday working out in the weight room. Maybe he got the message or maybe he was just waiting to hook up with quarterback Drew Bledsoe, whose father said on a local TV morning show Thursday the two were scheduled for a throwing session later in the day. Remember, Bledsoe wasn't here much last week, caddying for a buddy and attending The Masters . . . . More things change, more they stay the same. Didn't we hear the same thing last year this time about Keyshawn Johnson not being here, only to find out he missed a few days that he would eventually make up because of a trial he was involved in back in L.A. and not because he was holding out for a better contract . . . But you guys better get used to this type of stuff. As you might know (wink, wink), Owens is a lightning rod. So whatever he does or doesn't do - or is supposed to have done or didn't - will be headline news nationally. Get yourselves a good news-judgment filter, and don't forget to clean it out regularly. That's part of the deal that accompanies T.O. now . . . .

When the media asks the coach a question, why shouldnt he give his honest opinion. Its not like he is calling TO on the telephone telling TO he should get to the facility. This is all the media making a big deal out of it, not Parcells.

In other words, Parcells isnt asking TO to jump. He's just aswering the media's question honestly. Yes, he'd like TO to be there. He isnt banging on TO's door. The media blows everything out of proportion. It if didnt, it wouldnt make money.

What would the media do without TO and Favre? They would be forced to cover football rather than write for Soap Opera Digest. I say "the media sucks" and I am sick of hearing about both of them.

well this thread is already almost 30 posts in, and no eagles fan has come out and said that. wonder why you're getting so defensive?

you know deep down that he'll ruin your team eventually. expect one good year, then all hell breaks lose, if you're even that lucky to have one quiet year

It really was only a matter of time. I think this is even sooner than Eagle/49er fans thought.

What's wrong with an athlete separating himself from the rest of the team and doing things on his own. :wall: isn't this the exact problem he had with his other 2 teams?

If things keep going like this, anyone else extremely uncomfortable drafting this guy in the first couple rounds?

I better not hear any Dallas fans whining about T.O. this year. They knew what they were getting, so they can't complain about it. And now, for the popcorn...

I don't think this has anything to do with TO being in shape. Parcells needs to wield the control sword over his team. I don't think this is an issue, but I do think this is a primer for things to come.

I believe I heard he missed that part of voluntary camp because of his book tour? Don't know for sure, but I can't imagine the coach and JJ would be all too happy to hear that one.

This is the first bottle rocket to be fired in a long fireworks display that will take place up until game one. Can't wait to see what's next. :(

LOL. After the site was hacked apart, I kinda just stayed in limbo, not knowing the site was back up and running. By chance I came upon the site today, and now I'm back, even though my job has me more on client visits these days.

I'm not at all happy with the Eagles offseason so far, but I do feel it can be successful with a few moves on draft day. Trade up for Haloti Ngata from Oregon, trade for Javon Walker, and sign restricted FA Hunter Hillenmeyer from the Bears to play strong side LB this season.

I believe the Eagles have the most need for Javon Walker, and the most picks out of the teams vying for his services (I think Denver gets a Charles Rogers or Donte Stallworth).

Good to be back with the intentions of posting a little less abrasively this season.

I like your plan for the Eagles completely.....I would even be content with Stallworth if we couldnt get Walker. I dont kow Hillenmeyer that much.
