Rye & Leaf 0 Posted April 29, 2006 I predict that most Pack fans will celebrate the fact they have VD after this pick.
Arsenal 3 Posted April 29, 2006 It's also my humble opinion that highly-skilled TEs are a luxury and not a necessity. How many championships did Kellen Winslow, Sr. win? Gonzo? Shockey? Shannon Sharpe - 3 championships
Lions_or_Die 0 Posted April 29, 2006 Excellent pick. Best pick of the draft. Boomer just said safest pick. Right on target.
t.j 35 Posted April 29, 2006 I like the Hawk pick for Green Bay. He weighs as much as Vernon Davis and is just about as fast, but he is much more skilled than Davis IMO.
Vikings4ever 550 Posted April 29, 2006 Hawk is a good pick for the Packers.
Rye & Leaf 0 Posted April 29, 2006 Hawk, great pick for the pack...
icecheeze 0 Posted April 29, 2006 hawk will be solid for years...now, what is the deal for walker???
Bill Swerski 0 Posted April 29, 2006 Hawk was an excellent pick for this team, they needed an emotional leader on defense. With Woodson, Hawk, and whatever they get from the Walker deal, the Packers are going to finish the weekend with a MUCH improved team.
Restricted 0 Posted April 29, 2006 I'm super happy with the pick.
Agamemnon 2 Posted April 29, 2006 Shannon Sharpe - 3 championships 84 Shannon Sharpe, TE Height: 6-2 Weight: 228 Birthdate: 06/26/1968 Birthplace Chicago, IL, USA Years Pro: 13 College: Savannah State Drafted: 1990, 7th Round Denver Broncos Shannon Sharpe wasn't a TE drafted in the first round. I'm all for the Packers selecting a highly skilled TE in the latter rounds (Gates, Sharpe, etc.). Go A.J. Hawk! Excellent selection for this team in many regards.... swamp dog 0 Posted April 29, 2006 good pick. made sense. not a big surprise (though i thought they might go davis or trade down as well).
Fumbleweed 547 Posted April 29, 2006 Didn't Green Bay finish top ten in defense last year? Seems like with Hawk and Woodson on board, this defense could be awfully good........
shovelheadt 71 Posted April 29, 2006 But he should have been I got no problems with Hawk though, very solid pick and will help the team immensely. Besides the athletic part of it, his smashmouth personality is a perfect fit for that team, that division, that history, and that weather. Glad to see him go to a team I don't really hate. Arsenal 3 Posted April 29, 2006 good pick. made sense. not a big surprise (though i thought they might go davis or trade down as well). I thought they may trade down too, but clearly no one is enamored with the QBs and willing to pony up for them.
swamp dog 0 Posted April 29, 2006 I thought they may trade down too, but clearly no one is enamored with the QBs and willing to pony up for them. not at that spot, though we might start seeing some trades around this 8-12 area.
Walter34 3 Posted April 29, 2006 urlacher Jr. Good pick.
Tusekan Raiders 0 Posted April 29, 2006 Great pick. I was hoping the Packers would blow it and take Leinart. The only concern I'd have with this pick as a Packer fan is Hawk has some rather 'roidish facial features...
Arsenal 3 Posted April 29, 2006 Hmm, what do you think about White at 36?
hoffdaddy 1 Posted April 29, 2006 How about Chad Jackson with the next pick? Think he hangs around that long. Seems like a Walker clone.
Thin Spirit 0 Posted April 29, 2006 How about Chad Jackson with the next pick? Think he hangs around that long. Seems like a Walker clone. I was just coming here to say that, I wouldn't be suprised. Although, good look with Chad catching those Favre thrown balls in the freezing cold weather down there.
Arsenal 3 Posted April 29, 2006 How about Chad Jackson with the next pick? Think he hangs around that long. Seems like a Walker clone. Dunno, seems like he may have blown his best option. All those people after him and he still couldn't get a deal done? Maybe he will realize that the amount of money he is asking for isn't something that any team just hands you after a decent season. Dagger 0 Posted April 29, 2006 Hmm, what do you think about White at 36? I was holding out hope Mangold would make it to our pick. I would not be surprised to see Chad Jackson at the spot if he is still there. Or Deuce Latui.
kristv 0 Posted April 29, 2006 How about Chad Jackson with the next pick? Think he hangs around that long. Seems like a Walker clone. This is what I'm seeing happening. I just mentioned to my wife (yes, she is following the draft too...I'm so lucky! ) that there are still 2 good WR's hanging around after the first round is done, and I could see the Pack going for one of them. I was surprised to see Jackson get passed over for Holmes to be honest. Not sure whether I'd like to see them go for a WR or TE with this pick. Really, we need a good guard and this will probably be our best chance to still get one in this draft.
uubeee 0 Posted April 29, 2006 Abdul Hodge or Dqwell Jackson!!! Imagine Barnett, Hawk and Jackson!!!! GO LB LB then OL with the next 2 picks.
Dagger 0 Posted April 29, 2006 Abdul Hodge or Dqwell Jackson!!! Imagine Barnett, Hawk and Jackson!!!! GO LB LB then OL with the next 2 picks. You know, I was just going mention those two. I have seen Jackson play several times, and he is a solid, instinctive player. Wraps up well. Or they could take Hodge and plug him in the middle, with Hawk playing SLB and Barnett playing WLB. hoffdaddy 1 Posted April 29, 2006 Abdul Hodge or Dqwell Jackson!!! Imagine Barnett, Hawk and Jackson!!!! GO LB LB then OL with the next 2 picks. I could handle that. My only concern is, who is going to play WR? With Hawk, Barnett and some combo of Taylor/Thomas/Poppinga, think they'll be solid at LB. Not a whole lot of Wr options on this team right now. Dag - you were a big fan of Oregon's DT Ngati; what were your thoughts when the ESPN crew was ripping him apart, showing him taking plays off and getting single blocked against USC? Do you still think he was the pick?

Hawk and Barnett (which his more natural position) on the outside. WOW, that would be instant awesome!

Not a whole lot of Wr options on this team right now. We need TT to take the best player available at this point. There will be some cap cuts that can probably fill a spot at WR for us this season. swamp dog 0 Posted April 29, 2006 i think the pick in the second has to be o-line, preferably guard. there's some good ones still on the board.

I live in Iowa City; the local paper has been suggesting Hodge as a late second or early third round selection. Many Hawkeye fans are of a mind that Hodge was a better football player than Greenway, though I'm not of the same mind. I'm hoping a "need" BAP falls to them, be it Nick Mangold or Chad Jackson in Round 2, followed by the selection of Abdul Hodge in the third!

Dagger 0 Posted April 29, 2006 Dag - you were a big fan of Oregon's DT Ngati; what were your thoughts when the ESPN crew was ripping him apart, showing him taking plays off and getting single blocked against USC? Do you still think he was the pick? Absolutely. Ngata reminds me a little of Darryl Gardner coming out of Baylor. An immense talent who had a rep for taken plays off. He would make the Pack D so much better, watch him on the Ravens. That single block from USC was a marginal single block, which can be blamed more on Ngata's poor reaction off the ball. He took a false step and the guard was able to reach block him. (although that double team block was embarrassing). He will be asked to do one thing in the NFL - hold his ground at the point, and I think he will be very successful. He won't get the press, but he will be an integral part of the defense. With that said, I am dissapointed the Packers didn't take him (even more so if Hodge is available at # 2), but Hawk is a pretty good consolation prize. i think the pick in the second has to be o-line, preferably guard. there's some good ones still on the board. I just hope it's not Max Jean Giles. Supremely overrated, reminds me of the hype Tonu Fonoti got here. Deuce Latui is a big guard, but he can move. If the Pack go O Line, I hope he is the one. Interested to see the trade. Wouldn't mind the Pack picking up an extra mid rounder.
uubeee 0 Posted April 29, 2006 We got NE's 2nd and 3rd round picks and then made a trade for Denver 2nd rounder. Did Javon go bye bye?
