Recommended Posts

since we all know its not at 2nd, which side is it on at stadiums you've been to?

Royals (Kauffman):

Home: 1st

Visitor: 3rd

I dont think they are all on the same side, but really not 100% certain...

The side that doesn't look directly into the sun.

If neither, the 1B side because it is closer to run back to after an out.

well, your club did take 2 of 3 from one of the hottest teams in baseball this week so you got that going for you; which is nice.

Old addage. These days, they always try to position the field with a skyline view in CF.

Brewers home dugout used to be 1st base side in County Stadium.

I thought I read somewhere MLB asked them to move it to 3rd base in the new stadium (though I cannot confirm this). As that is where the home team's dugout was supposed to be.

I know the Sounds here in Nashville (Brewers AAA) has their home dugout on the 3rd base side.

The answer apparently is that there is no tradition at all in force

today, and it is unclear whether there ever was a uniform one. Here

is one aptly named website's take on the subject:

"On which side of the field should the home dugout be located? How

many Major League parks have the home dugout on the first-base side?

"There is no right or wrong answer as to whether the home dugout

should be on the first-base side or the third-base side. The major

League Baseball Rulebook is silent on the subject. Therefore, let's

examine where Major League dugouts are located these days. In the

National League, far more are on the first-base side (11 to 5). In the

American League, though, it's split evenly, with seven on each side of

the field. Even the two oldest parks still in use differ on this

point: the Cubs sit on the third-base side at Wrigley while the Red

Sox inhabit the first-base dugout at Fenway.

then how come 75% of teams have 1st base side as home dugout

That's a made up number

miller park has the home dugout on the first base side...

this gives the coaches a chance to watch Bernie Brewer up in his chalet in left field as he steals catchers signs..relaying them by standing on 1 side or the other on the porch...

the brewers workout facilities underground and parking are all on the 1st base side...the visiting busses are under the 3rd base side by Fridays..visable to passing fans...

the single A wisconsin timber rattlers are on the 3rd base side...

the braves and yankees are on the 1st base side..

when the cubs make a 3rd out and kill the rally, they  back to the 3rd base side...plus we all remember steroid boys sprint from the dugout..

Skydome

Home - 3rd

Visitor - 1st

...I will call it Skydome until they tear it down, to name a huge field like that 'Rogers Centre' is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.

Yeah...trying to remember when I was at Miller Park...it was the first year in there. But I do not recall which dugout. But I do recall something about them changing at one point (maybe while they were still in Co. Stadium. Growing up they were always on the 1st base side.
