To all you focking people with Sunday Ticket lined up !

Recommended Posts

 :fy:

After 2 years of having Sunday Ticket I am forced to go this year with no such thing ! The wifey is due to give birth to ur second child and I simply will not have time to make it worth spending the money as I will have my hands full.

Is there any other decent option -- like how much is it to buy a Sirius radio and does it automatically come with all the game audios ? , Does regualr NFL Network ( Red zone ) give up to minute highlights ?

seriously any help would be great I am already starting to go through withdrawl and pre season aint even started yet !

Sirius is $12.95 a month (they offer a discounted annual plan as well):

And yes - DirecTV does show up to the minute stats via NFL network - without Sunday Ticket.

Of course, you could get Sunday Ticket for free (like me). No, I'm not a new subscriber. Just called and threatened to switch to Comcast.

*free Sunday Ticket

*$10 off my bill for 6 months

*free Showtime for 6 months

Can you blame me for bragging? YMMV.

:console: dude I had Sunday Ticket for a couple of years, then one year without, now I have it again, that year without was awful. I am telling you man, you are going to hate life. I do have Sirius radio and it is sweet, it does come with all the game audios. I love having both because if I have to run errands or something on a Sunday I can still listen to the games on Sirius. But I have never had Sirius with no Sunday Ticket, I imagine that there is just no substitute for the Ticket. The only reason I went without it for a year was because I moved, and they told me when I moved in that I'd be able to get the dish, then I moved in and there was no line of sight. Soon as my lease was up I moved again. If you've already got the dish set up, the choice is clear... sacrifice something else, don't sacrifice the Ticket!!!

If all you really care about are the updates, just go to NFL.com. All the game scores, all the time. Written description of every play and free. I supplement Live Scoring from my leagues with it.

All answers above are dead on for their points. Also, before I got Sunday Ticket, I was able to find all audio on the net at the home team (usually) radio channel. It's free, plus I campped out all day checking scores (Fantasy and otherwise) anyway. NFL Network does a good job on Sunday for those without the full package.

I've never listened, but NFL.com also has audio feeds from either teams broadcasters. Like I said, never tried it and presume it's free also. Not pimping them, just providing input.

Look at it this way, at least you won't have to work every Sunday including the playoffs and superbowl. It could always be worse.

There should be a wage and hour law against that happening.

Dude get the ticket....send the wife shopping or out w/her friends while you stay w/the newborn. You will catch plenty of the football while the baby snoozes(everybodies happy). If it is a money issue like the other poster said it's understandable....but not really cuz if you can't pony up like $159 or whatever it is now, then things are pretty tough and you probably shouldn't be wasting time and money on ff.The extra time should be spent on a real job search

Besides my previous posts, I didn't mention how I ended up with the ticket. If you want the ticket and you are married, move to Vegas. 1 Sunday at a sports bar (or better yet, sports book) costs about $150 between drinks, food, video poker (since it's there) and/or multiple parlay tickets. Wife was never happier than the day I told her she could go shopping and I was going to stay home to watch the games. Now that we are in Florida, I just tell her that she has the beach, theme parks (for the kid), etc so still no qualms about paying to fee.

I agree he went a little far but i called last year when I didn't get my free 5 months of Premium channels for ordering the ticket like i got the season before. I said fock it i will go back with Comcast -- they then gave me free HBO an starz for 6 months !

The money is nothing I make a decent buck but - it da Wifey ! For 2 years on Sunday she has watched me wake up , go to church , return from Church - quickly change - Get my Laptop going - as computer boots up get necessary food / Beer from Fridge - go directly to Couch and not move other than bathroom breaks for 9 hours ! On occasion I would have my son sit next to me untill of course I thought he was bringing my players funky mojo then i immeadatley told him to go to mom ! ! : . Wife almost went insane told me this year she really needs help with a newborn and a 3 year old to take care of -- so I guess its time to grow da fock up - even on Sundays my one day to be a kid again  If I don't give it up I am a total POS ! ! ( not as if I am not anway )

Sorry Moz; Maybe you could tivo da games... not turn on a TV or anything to ruin it, then put the kids to bed @ 8:00 & Veg out till 1:00? I know half the fun is watching your FF games live... but it would be better than nothing.

As for me, I normally spend almost all Sunday at our local sports bar w/ some friends from the league. We had our first baby two months ago... so my Sunday tradition is probably shot too. I don't think the dish will work here because of all the damn trees... but I'm going to have a guy come out this weekend and make sure.

Sirius does carry all of the games and has each teams home broadcast. For example the Steelers vs. Browns will carry Steelers home broadcast on channell 124 and Browns live broadcast on channell 153.

What I like is the pregame show on the NFL channell 124. Very comprehensive and helpful.

Anyone know how much the tickets is? Or is there a discount for a new dish owner. I ask cause I'm at our families rebuilt vacation house on Cape Cod. I think I saw on a channel that it was being offerred for like 48.50 which seemed silly cheap. I'm thinking of telling my Aunt to order it and I'll pay her for it...I might only make it down here two or three times during the fall/winter, but for that price it would be worth it IMO. Might also make the place more attractive for a off season rental?

Moz, you might want to rethink that sh*t. The first few months of a kids life are mostly spent sleeping. You're going to have more time than you think. Hell, you can't get a better excuse to sit home with the infant on a Sunday.

It has been in the family for years. Got burned down by a couple of kids a year and a half ago. Just rebuilt and the new house is sweet...internet access, direct TV, etc (old place didn't even have a phone when I was a kid here)....but it the land that is really worth something, if it were to be sold....7 acres of forest land on a fresh water lake and just a mile from the ocean if that's yer thing...I perfer the private lake beach in the front yard myself. My Mom just gave her part (1/4) to me and my sister so I own an 1/8. Under the conservation act for another 20 years so it can't be sold anyway (keeps the taxes down.)

So I ain't rich, but I do have a sweet ass vacation house on the Cape...kinda like a family time share I guess.

MOZ! if there is any way possible you must keep the ticket. ive had it since it came out and its a must. i know you know this so what are you thinking?!?

as long as its not money i cant think of any reason for this decision. i dont have kids but i believe i could put the high chair and playpen and changing table next to the couch on sundays and watch as i took care of the kid. i agree with the others that you should send the wife out so you can have the house to yourself(along with the kid of course). she should appreciate the time with her girlfriends and you will appreciate the ticket. everyone is happy, right?

Moz,

It's all about compromise. You want something...She wants something. In fact, I'm betting she'll come up with a list of things > than 17 Sundays a year....guaranteed. Make her do her list then start the negotiations. When things get tough, you can take on more things she really hates to do. If things get ugly (and they might), offer to give up Sunday night games (but never Monday night). In the end, if you can catch 6 hours of multiple games on Sunday plus Monday night, it is a win-win. I like the Tivo idea for the Sunday night game. Nothing like watching commercial free football when there's nothing on prime-time later in the week.

Don't rollover...you're going to set a very bad example for these kids

Dude its not the infant - its the 3 year old wrecking ball that is my son ! ! The wifey is gonna take care of the infant and i have to take care of my 3 year old son..

I made a deal with the wifey -- She is going to have to wake up and do all the midnight duty , 3 am , whatever while i get to sleep - as long as I whenever I am home take care of Alex.

BUT I already told da wifey I have to work 2 sundays a month  . I work in Downtown Chicago - right by a sweet bar with 50 tvs an all da games ! so at least I will have that.

You can do this at NFL.com, but it's not free. I do it every season, as I live in England and they don't show very many Packers games during the season over here. If you wait until just before the first game of the season, you can get it discounted slightly (I think they knock off $5-10 for the season). It's not the Ticket, but it's better than nothing and is only about $30 for the season.

I believe it is $48 and change PER MONTH (4 installments). I started at $120 a few years back and am now around $180. I am sure some of the "initial subscribers" saw below $100. Still the best deal on the dish (since my wife has 800 someodd other channels that she watches once a year for $100+ a month).

True, but the wife doesn't see it this way.

This is what I do. It kind of sucks but is the best option I've got (1 and 3 year old). You have to hope you recorded a "good" game since you can't switch. Sometimes I can't stay awake... which makes writing FF In The Groin tougher... and I do get a little tired of always being on the remote firing through the commercials. I enjoy the 3.5 hour telecast pace. Of course, this is optional but given the late time already I either fast forward and watch more football, or regular pace and see 1 game.

BUT I already told da wifey I have to work 2 sundays a month :D . I work in Downtown Chicago - right by a sweet bar with 50 tvs an all da games ! so at least I will have that.

It's threads like these that make me thankful the mrs and I opted not to have kids.

Look on the bright side Moz at least the last 6 weeks of the season there's Thursday and/or Saturday night games on.

Moz, if you're like me it's probably not just the wife's nagging or the $$ involved making you want to stay away from all the games but your guilt about making the kids sit thru it. Get the ticket, watch when you can and instead of sitting in front of the tube every Sunday, take your 3 year old out to a playground and enjoy what life is really about. Then after a few hours come back and  with the wife and kids as you catch some of the late games/highlights. To whoever said they were glad they never had kids I really feel sorry for you. Kids are 1000X more enjoyment than ff could ever be. I love football as much as the next guy but like every good thing enjoy it in moderation and never at the expense of your kids. It's all about finding a balance.

I appreciate that you love your kids, however, there's no need to feel sorry for me,not all guys are cut out to be fathers.Being one of those guys myself I'm happy I recognized it before it was too late. There's nothing worse than being a kid and having a selfish old man(I know all too well)and yes I could have gambled and learned from my own father's mistakes but I wasn't willing to take that risk, lose, and end up screwing up some more kids' lives.

If money is no big deal, I would buy the ticket. You don't have to sit all day(wow-did I say that) You then can sit half the day or everyother week, anything you want.

If it was me & I had the money. Get the ticket & just do the afternoon games. Still get to see the highlighs from the noon games & see all the 3:00 games. Only have like 3 hours on Sunday (I know hard- but gives you a life outside of Football on Sunday) :wall:

Got to give you credit, you must love your wife & kids. Puttting them over a game

With Fox and CBS I get 3 Sunday afternoon games, Sunday night will be an NBC game, Monday Night will be an ESPN game and later the NFL Network will be airing Thursday games and I believe will have some Saturday games factor in that week 3 through week 10, 4 teams will be on a bye so there are 2 games you lose a week.

Now I have had the Ticket the last 2 years and I just don't feel it's worth the money anymore, yet they keep raising the price oh yea they might offer you Showtime which isn't much since they own it and give you half back of the increase cost but they still are over charging you. Now I get the Steeler games every week so I have a good team to watch. The only thing on Sunday I'm on the computer the whole day checking out games and glancing to watch a replay every now and then or I switch to the game when I see somebody is in the red zone. But paying over $200 for this privledge is to much your better off taking that money and getting into a little higher Fantasy League and you might win around $1,500. JMO <_<
