D'ohmer Simpson

PHILLY homers.....Will you see Invincible?

Recommended Posts

I'm in

Inspired by the true story of Vince Papale, a down-on-his-luck teacher and part-time bartender lives every fan's fantasy of moving from the stands to the field when he makes it onto his hometown's professional football team during an open tryout.

I remember Papale playing. He was a tough-guy special teamer.

I will definitely see it.

By the way, D'ohmer, you mistakingly typed "Greg" instead of "Vince" in your thread title.

I remember his name and remember him playing, but don't remember any details. I do know I have his football card in my collection though.

Thanks, must've had a brain fart there.

If Philly people don't see it, who the fock else is gonna see it? I still can't believe they made this movie. It will do fine locally, but why make a movie about a football team with no national appeal at all? The Eagles are known for booing Santa Claus, throwing batteries and having a jail and judge in their stadium. They expect people to come watch a movie about this abortion of a sports franchise that has never won a super bowl?

Hollywood should stick to movies about Philadelphia that consist of aids ridden faggots crying on screen.

I realize you're just trying to have fun here, but you should know that you're hurting the Philadelphia Eagles' feelings with this post and that you shouldn't attack them any more, at least not unprovoked.

I'd bet you $100 it's among the Top 3 movies whatever weekend it opens. I recently called your workplace to confirm that you do in fact work there, so I'll know where to mail the check if I'm wrong.

That truce last all of a few hours, as expected.

I didn't say I'm calling your workplace - I already did. This was awhile ago. I didn't say anything bad about you. Just asked if a guy named ___ worked there. Got my answer and hung up. Don't be so sensitive.

Valid questions, but......

It's not a movie about the Eagles so much as it's, like the promo says, every fans dream of playing professional football, and playing professional football for their hometown team. And doing it with open tryouts at that!

I realize most with limited intellect like yourself will say it's a film about the Eagles, and that only Philly people will want to see it, but it does have broader appeal, just like Rocky was more than a film about a local Philly boxer ;)

As for Hollywood doing a film about aids ridden faggots crying on screen, I'm sure they'll be in contact with you soon.

It opens Aug 25th, along with nothing. I expect it to finish 3rd, behind "Beerfest" and "How to eat fried worms". Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

It's still a movie about the Eagles, stupid. If the team was the Cowboys or Dolphins or another team with national appeal, it would do much better.

And the other movie was already done, called Philadelphia, stupid.

That's good to hear as I have begun work on a script tentatively titled: "Uncageable: The Cecil Collins Story". It's about a man who doesn't accept "no" for an answer.

Number one, I'm gonna reiterate that the story is about a man living his fantasy, just because it happened with the Eagles matters not really. Again, this is not a story about the Eagles.

Two, that's exactly what I'm doing. The Eagles have more appeal because of their 4-straight appearances in NFC Championship games and Superbowl appearance, so yeah, the Eagles have more appeal than the freakin' Dolphins.

OK, you've just proclaimed yourself as an idiot.

While the Dolphins were winning super bowls, putting up undefeated seasons and growing a national fan base, the Eagles were going into Philly bars looking for wide receivers.

meh, that wore off years and years ago. Nobody cares about that anymore. Life is more about what have you done for me lately. The Eagles have been in the national spotlight, the Dolphins are but a distant memory. Except for Ricky getting tossed off the team, nobody hears anything about them. The Eagles on the other hand, have been in the spotlight.

Nationwide merchandise sales seems to indicate otherwise. Article is a year old (most recent stats I could find), but I don't see the Dolphins having leapt into the hearts of millions in the last 12 months.

As for seeing the movie, probably not. I saw it the first time.

How many Philly fans do you think the team has added across the country the past 4 years by losing championship games and a super bowl?

Good work JT, and thanks  Good info, you just blew Gutter's argument out of the water.

But I realize Gutter has low self worth and just looks for a fight all the time, even when he's totally and completely wrong. I decided to play along with his fishing attempt because I'm bored at work.

Eagles have a pretty sizeable national following. Not first tier like the Raiders, Cowboys or Giants, but I'd guess they're among the Top 10 so far as the number of fans. Either way "Invinceable" should do pretty well because of Mark Wahlberg and because it's an underdog sports movie and people never seem to get tired of that.

More so than the Dolphins, who's only claim to fame lately is losing a RB to the weed.

If you think sales of jerseys for one year translates to more nationwide fans then you're even dumber than I thought.

I don't see Dolphins merchandise flying off the shelves. So until you can offer some proof that the Dolphins have more national appeal than the Eagles, just shut up while you're behind

This statement below further proves what I've been saying, that the league is a 'what have you done for me lately'. The Eagles and the Patriots have been in the news, the Dolphins not so much. Nobody cares about the Dolphins anymore, and whatever fans they had outside of Florida seem to be interested in the Eagles and Patriots stuff now :D

In team sales, the Eagles were followed by Super Bowl champion New England,

They did it as a baseball movie with Dennis Quaid "The Rookie"

Fock feel good sports movies. I always root for the underdog to get a fatal disease and die.
