I like Widespred Panic, but no way are they the most underrated band on the planet. That award goes to XTC, and it's their own damn fault, but their music is so good that it doesn't matter.

I'd actually say it's a person. With a scratchy voice and crazy lyrics. His biggest hit, was actually not him, but Rod Stewart singing his music. Remember "Downtown Train"?

 

It's a cover, from an album called Rain Dogs, by a guy named Tom Waits.

I am a huge DKM fan, but I wouldn't call them underrated. Selling out 5-6 shows in a row at Avalon, with scalped tix pretty high... well, plenty of people know about them. Or at least they do in Boston.

 

And, you need to check out the Street Dogs. Mike, the singer for the first DKM album is the singer, and they also have the drummer from the Bosstones.
