Worst pick ever made?

Recommended Posts

All this talk about who the best picks would be, how about worst in drafts past. I'm in a 12 team league (more like 9 people who know what they're doing and 3 people who "think" they know what they're doing) Three years ago with the first pick in the draft a guy in our league took (drum roll please) : the tampa bay defense. It's been an ongoing joke ever since, just thought I'd share the laugh. Any crazy picks???

Got ya all beat.

My buddy got into my league one year and about the 10th round or so he picked Tony Carter. Now it's bad enough to draft a fullback who barely got carries, it was his comment that made the pick great:

The League, "Why would you pick Tony Carter?"

My Friend, "I went to high school with him and he was awesome!!"

He was only in the league for a few years after that, but anytime someone made a pick that was a little off the wall we'd ask..."did you go to high school with him?"...."What was his high school stats?"...."Anyone see this kid in Pop Warner ball?".........it never got old...it was always funny!

Just had a draft for a new keeper league - Priest, CMart, and Jimmy Smith all got drafted. Shockingly, Jerome is still on the WW.

:dunno:

Right, they can come play in my big money league.

Last year in the 10th round a owner in our league drafted Craphonzo Thorp, WR. He wanted a player with "crap" in the name. He got em.

A few years ago I drafted Christopher Reeve as a 4th WR.

Ok that was wrong.

In an office league several years ago a girl drafted Emmit Smith 1 year after he retired. We gave her another chance so she drafted Michael Vick in the 1st round. Irony? Somehow she finished 3rd.

That's fantasy football for you......

This boner in my work league, about four years ago draft Trung Canidate with the first overall pick. I guess since he blew up with the Rams the year before, he thought he would do the same for the Redskins. Then his second round was Az Hakim (I think he was Lion then). I think the year before he had three good games to end on and this guy remembered them. Needless to say we allow him to stay so we get at least one win. His drafting is getting a little better as time goes on.

We actually had someone draft a dead guy! :shocking: I can't remember the players name but he died in the offseason.

In 2004, we had a guy in our league who is an MD who got called into the hospital on draft day. He still participated in the draft via cell phone, in between treating patients! We actually heard him ordering prescriptions during the draft.

Anyway, in the 2nd round he drafted Doug Flute (who had a good 2003 point wise, but was not longer starting in 2004) Everyone laughed, and the guy begged to take the pick back which started a huge debate in the league.

Ultimately, we let him pick again, because he of the situation, but it was an ugly debate.

1988-Our 1st draft. First round-Morton Anderson. All of us knew enough not to take a kicker but this one dude. he never lived it down. :shocking:

Didn't Emmitt Smith retire only 2 years ago? So this draft would have had to happen last year? Not several years ago?

Probably drafting with fantasy magazines. I'm banking on that at least two owners use them in my upcoming drafts. Everyone I want will fall to me....Hopefully.

last year in my 12 teamer the 8th overall pick was kerry collins

guess they bought way to far into the moss hype. then, because they were so convinced with their collins choice, they drafted vick in the 4th. ;)

in a league back home with a ton of vikes and packer homers, all of the meaningful players on either team used to go really early. usually merited though, with the likes of brett favre, dorsey levens, antonio freeman, cris carter, randy moss, and whoever the vikings QB was.

anyways, in 1999 (the year after the vikings set the scoring record and gary anderson was a perfect bajillion of bajilloin kicking), one guy decided he wanted to grab that stud vikings kicker in the third round just to make sure he got all those points. excitedly, at pick 3.2, he yells out FUAD REVEIZ! the name of longtime viking placekicker who had retired like five years previously... lol!

This guy in my leauge wrecked his new 'trans am' on the way to the draft by reversing into a parked car while showing off then drafted Chip Lohmiller #1 overall.

Jimmy Miller, that dude was crazy.

Two years ago, Not the sharpest knife in the drawer took:

The Ravens D in round two (not as bad a TB D in the first) :dunno:

BUT then:

He followed it up in the third by grabbing the Pats D to fill in the bye week hole.

Not as bad but Ill give my personal story. It was my first year ever in a fantasy draft and it was the year Terrell Davis had come back from his bad injury. I drafted him in the 2nd round then took Alstott in the 5th. Yes I finshed 9th in a 12 teamer.

Someone in a redraft this year picked Antwaan Randle El in the 2nd round. Later on, his RB's consisted of C.Dillon, F.Taylor, and A.Green. When he drafted C.Martin after that, I said that I thought he died. He insisted that Martin was alive, and just had a down year. Then about five minutes later, he says that he is looking at ESPN right now, and Curtis Martin is definitely not dead.

About five minutes after the draft, he'd put Martin on waivers and picked up some other scrub.

Guy in my league a few weeks ago took Curtis Martin in the second round.

"Alright well somebody's gotta do it...I'll take Curtis Martin."

This guy also somehow won two championships in the last 6 years of our league. I made the joke during the draft that ever since he was the 2003 championship, he's been using the same cheat sheet ever since.

Only QBs off the board: P. Manning

Only WRs off the board: S. Smith, T. Owens, L. Fitzgerald, C. Johnson

If that was 2002, we had a guy taking Gannon with #2 we also coughed our nuts, Gannon finished pretty decent that year....

Two years ago, some guy picked Vick #2 and Peerless Price #3. "Just think of all those double-dips..." was his reasoning

Same thing here my friend.... except the guy in my draft that year took Vick in the first round and Price in the 2nd..... at least your guy probably got a good RB in the first.... :headbanger:

Oh yeah my boy finished dead last # 12 of 12 teams. :pointstosky:

Only difference is he said .... Vick finally has his big threat Wr.... he'll be on the recieving end of bomb after bomb all season long
